Description

As two soldiers performed their routine patrol around the base, a swarm of hideous spiders emerged from the trees. They attacked one of the men, biting him numerous times. The other soldier managed to rescue him just in time, but he was in critical condition. Not knowing what else to do, H.E.A.T. was called in to investigate. They quickly found samples of the widows, but soon were swarmed as well. The group managed to escape without any injuries. Deciding to use pesticides, Major Hicks deployed a small squadron equipped with some of the world’s most powerful poisons. However, the pesticides failed to even hinder the spiders.

Back at base, the mother spider made its move but was drawn into a battle with Godzilla. When the battle between the huge spider and the King of the Monsters came to an end, the offspring followed their mother back into the jungle. Back at base, Nick made numerous discoveries with the captured arachnids. Upon closer examination of them, the world famous scientist discovered they were but mere babies. Additionally, after accidentally releasing one of the spiders, it was captured again with a vase containing some of the island’s flowers that Elsie had plucked. This flower was the key.

Another pesticide was prepared, this time using the flower as a basis. In the form of a bomb, the explosive was transported to the arachnid’s layer. The huge spider quickly made its presence known and hundreds of spiders fell from its back. The bomb was dropped before it could be activated and hundreds of spiders covered it. Despite this, Nick risked his own life to activate it. He suffered numerous bites, but his plan succeeded. Once Godzilla blasted the parent arachnid back on top of the bomb, it was remotely detonated. The pesticide spread outward, instantly paralyzed and seemingly killing each of the ravenous spiders.

Powers / Weapons
Web spray

Web spray

Like the species it was mutated from, the baby widows can generate extremely sticky, silk webbing from their thorax. This webbing has a variety of uses, but is mostly used to ensnare its victims in a quick cocoon. Additionally, the spiders were capable of using this webbing as a rope in order to descend from above and create spider webs between objects.

Venomous bite

Venomous bite

Like regular widow spiders, the mutated varieties have a venous bite. While this bite can induce pain, sickness and fatigue and even leave a man in critical condition if bitten enough times, it is not exceptionally fatal to a human unless in absolute massive doses.

Pesticide immunity

Pesticide immunity

Due to their mutation, the arachnids are immune to all of man’s synthetic pesticides. Even the most deadly forms are completely useless against them.

Weaknesses
Floral paralysis

Floral paralysis

The Mutant Black Widow babies are highly susceptible to the affects of a certain species of flower that acts as a natural pesticide to it and its kin. Once exposed, the spiders will be paralyzed.

Description

On a remote military complex in the tropics, H.E.A.T. was called in after a soldier was nearly killed by a swarm of large spiders. After Major Hicks tried slaying the arachnids with a heavy dose of pesticides, the largest of the predators made its presence known. Attacking the military base, the huge thing was impervious to conventional firepower and began to spray its webbing. Dr. Elsie Chapman was caught in its path and cocooned alive. It grabbed her in its jaws and prepared to swallow the woman whole until the ground underneath it gave way and Godzilla arrived.

The King of the Monsters saved his human allies and battled the spider. The spider kept him at bay it web spray, even pinning him to a rocky wall. However, Godzilla managed to break free. Trying to control the reptile with his sonic signaler, Craven’s device malfunctioned and sent the atomic lizard heading back to the sea in confusion. This allowed the spider, and her brood, to return to the heart of the jungle to enhance their numbers.

Not long after, H.E.A.T. accidentally discovered that a unique species of flower found on the island acted as a natural pesticide that could paralyze the arachnids. After collecting vast amounts of this flower, a bomb was readied with a synthesized pesticide based on the flower within. Its nest was discovered and the spider attacked, but again Godzilla interfered. The titans collided, but Godzilla wasted no time this time and unleashed his atomic fire, pushing the widow on top of the bomb. The weapon was then detonated, blasting the eight-legged thing in a colossal explosion and dousing it in the pesticide. If the spider was merely paralyzed or utterly killed following this is unknown.

Like the species it was mutated from, the Mutant Black Widow can generate an extremely sticky, silk webbing from its thorax. This webbing has a variety of uses, but is mostly used to ensnare its victims in a quick cocoon. A single spray was enough to cocoon a human-sized target in but a second. It also used this webbing to create a monstrously huge spider web in which allowed her to ambush her victims.

Asexual reproduction

Asexual reproduction

Not only is its reproductive cycle on overdrive, the huge arachnid can reproduce asexually without the need of a mate. This allows it to spawn thousands of smaller spiders almost daily, threatening to spread across the globe if not stopped.

Venomous bite

It can be assumed the Mutant Black Widow has the same type of venomous bite as its offspring, though it never has the opportunity to perform this attack when fighting Godzilla.

Molting regeneration / Pesticide immunity

When Godzilla snapped off one of the Giant Spider's legs, it was stated this was a “clean break” by Nick, meaning the spider could regenerate the lost limb during its next molting cycle. While it does not undergo this cycle on screen, the next time the Giant Spider makes its appearance, its missing limb has completely regenerated.

Additionally, it can also be assumed the huge spider has the same resistance to all known man-made pesticides as its spiderlings.
