Description

Mutated by pollutants given off by jets, vehicles and even factories, a species of monstrous hummingbirds thrived in the Redwood Forests of California. When their polluted food sources gave out, they turned their hungry eyes to the sky and began attacking jets. H.E.A.T. was called in after an air force test flight was nearly brought down by one of the birds. They quickly encountered one of the creatures and just barely escaped after their plane was hit by its acidic saliva. Before it could finish the attack, Godzilla burst from the water and swiped at the unseen bird, driving it away.

Examination of the saliva led the team to the bird's origins and home in the Redwood Forest. There, the group discovered there wasn’t just one of the mutations but an entire squadron. The things were on the move and making them visible to the human eye was impossible. Fortunately, Randy and Craven devised a visor that would allow Godzilla to see the unseen birds. Just as the birds began to attack San Francisco, Godzilla was outfitted with the eye gear.

While he managed to swipe and burn several of the mutations, most of them flew further inland to feed on pollutants directly. To bring them back, the team increased their plane’s emissions. The high volume of pollutants called them back like a beacon. Godzilla acted quickly, but another plane flew into the airspace despite advisements for the airport to be shut down. Clinging to the engines of the airliner, the birds threatened to bring it down. With careful precision firing, Godzilla unleashed his atomic fire and hit the final mutations and sent them crashing into the water.

While this battle was over, the squadron of hummingbirds was only stunned from their encounter with Godzilla. The government was eager to collect and study them, hoping to eventually utilize their natural cloaking ability in the development of jets.
