Emerging from an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, the Fire Monster left the facility in ruins and annihilated the Coast Guard. H.E.A.T. was called in and upon investigation, discovered the monster still within the rig. N.I.G.E.L. was damaged and the team went onboard armed with freezing chemicals, but the chemicals were only a temporary solution. The beast was able to instantly reignite as soon as its flames were doused. Pinned down by the strange mutation, the group was unexpectedly rescued by Godzilla as he climbed on top of the rig. The titans began to battle, but as Godzilla fired his atomic ray, the thing merely fed on the nuclear fire and its flame body grew larger. Soon the rig collapsed, sending both monsters in the Gulf.
However, as the insect-like thing floated to the surface, its legs began to ingest the vast amount of oil. Its ability to spawn fire was renewed. Soon it grew another fiery body and the battle was on again. Knowing it had a near endless amount of fuel due to the oil leak, the H.E.A.T. team lured it away with the Heat Seeker’s concentrated fuel barrels. The enhanced fuel was enough to pull it from its larger meal, but it also gave it an even bigger body.
Godzilla moved in, but it began to blast the King of the Monsters with tremendous waves of fire. Each shot made its flaming body shrink. The creature realized its fuel was being rapidly depleted as it fired away. It turned back to the wreckage of the rig in an attempt to feed once more, but Godzilla swiped the water with his tail and generated a titanic wave. The water crashed down onto the mutation, submerging it and sending it to the bottom of the ocean in an unconscious state.
The creature was believed to be dead, but Dr. Craven wished to examine its body to unlock the countless secrets and discoveries within. Using N.I.G.E.L., he collected the creature’s remains and secretly brought them back home. Unfortunetly, it was not dead. While Craven and Randy discovered it bled methane, the gas filled the warehouse and ignited from a small flame source. The blast rejuvenated the Fire Monster and it quickly went on the move, heading for a refinery. As it threatened the H.E.A.T. team again, Godzilla burst from the water to battle it once more.
The mutation fed on the fuel eagerly, growing tremendously huge and powerful within its fiery body. Major Hicks and his men arrived and tried firing upon it, believing a missile bombardment would siphon the oxygen from around it and render it unconscious. Unfortunately, the beast’s blaze caused the warheads to detonate prematurely. With no weapon in his arsenal able to penetrate its flaming body, Major Hicks was at a loss but Craven came up with a solution to the problem he helped create. By strapping nitroglycerin to N.I.G.E.L., he could get close enough to trigger an explosion from within the body of the thing.
As the plan went underway, Nick lured Godzilla away with cries for help. The Fire Monster remained behind, gorging on fuel until N.I.G.E.L. was near. Sensing the nitro, it moved in but it was detonated just as it came down. The resulting blast was successful in destroying its flaming form and rendering the mutation unconscious. Once again it was believed to be dead. Its body was vacuum sealed and taken back out to sea and sunk. However, just as the glass bubble hit the sea floor, a passing shark hit the container and broke it open. The mutation was freed and still alive… |
