Powers / Weapons
Monster transformation

Monster transformation

Balgaras can revert to its monster form whenever needed. In this state, it is a much more capable fighter, striking with its claws and performing throws. It is also given access to its explosive pink smoke attack.

Levitation

Levitation

The orb form of Balgaras is capable of levitation. Its body hovers up and down while approaching its target, though it moves somewhat slowly.

Reformation

Reformation

Should its body be destroyed, Balgaras is capable of reforming in a matter of seconds. However, it seems this only works once for it was never able to return after Zone Fighter blew it apart with his Meteor Missile Might.

Background and Trivia
  • Though the orb form is shown to levitate, it is unknown if it can do so in its monster form as well. Likewise, Balgaras is shown reforming after being destroyed in its orb form, but dying permanently when defeated in its monster form. Whether it cannot die so long as it is defeated in its orb form, or it was simply able to resurrect once, remains a mystery.

Description

Arriving at the planet Balgar in a Terror-Beast Capsule, Balgaras first encountered Zone Fighter in its orb form before revealing its true monstrous appearance. The white-bodied monster fought valiantly, switching between its ball form and monster form at a moment's notice, and unleashed an explosive pink mist when given the opportunity. But try as it might, it was unable to best the hero. Reverting to its orb transformation, Balgaras began levitating in midair, its round body bobbing up and down as it steadily approached the hero, waiting for the right moment to strike. However, its large body glanced some nearby rocks, causing it to fall to the ground. Not missing a beat, Zone Fighter grabbed the spherical beast and tossed it into the air, where he landed a powerful Meteor Proton Beam, splitting the monster's balled-up body to pieces. Small silver remains spread across the moonscape while the white outer shell of Balgaras remained intact. It appeared the battle was over - but something strange began to happen. Its body began to reform. The scattered pieces of the monster began rolling beneath the intact white shell as if magnetized, and in a matter of seconds, Balgaras stood anew completely unscathed.

The battle began again. Fighting harder, Zone Fighter threw all of his physical strength against the savage Balgaras, who also fought resiliently with impressive strikes and throws, and once again utilized its powerful pink smoke. But as before, it remained outclassed in hand-to-hand combat. After unleashing a flurry of punches at the monster's face, Zone Fighter tore off one of the beast's spines and stuffed it into its mouth. The silver hero delivered thunderous kicks and powerful punches, driving Balgaras back in a stunned daze. Before it could recoup again, Zone Fighter brought forth the strength of his Meteor Missile Might. And once again Balgaras was destroyed, however this time there would be no coming back from the dead.

Powers / Weapons
Orb transformation

Orb transformation

Like a pill bug, Balgaras is capable of rolling his body up into a ball. In this state, it is capable of rolling for movement and even limited levitation, usually using this to turn itself into a clobbering wrecking ball and crash into its opponents.

Pink smoke

Pink smoke

Balgaras can unleash a highly explosive pink smoke from its mouth. When used against Zone Fighter, it was capable of engulfing him entirely while covering him in a series of small explosions.

Background and Trivia
  • Strangely, in the book Toho Special Effects: All Kaiju Illustrated Encyclopedia, its place of birth is said to be the planet Garoga Baron (Japanese: ガロガバラン星), even though it fights Zone Fighter on the planet Balgar (Japanese: バルガー遊星), which shares a nearly identical name to the monster. While its subtitle is listed as being "Transforming Terror-Beast" (Japanese: 変身恐獣), Balgaras is merely referred to as "Terror-Beast" (Japanese: 恐獣) during its entrance in the show.
  • Upon dying, a giant cross and halo inexplicably appear where the monster perished.
