Description

A deceptively harmless-looking egg is launched toward Earth inside a Terror-Beast Missile, heralding yet another sinister plot by the Garoga aliens. Operating from a newly constructed underground base, the Garoga begin siphoning energy from an unlikely combination of sources: geothermal heat and the bioelectric power of ordinary chickens. All of this stolen energy is funneled directly into the mysterious egg. Their twisted experiment soon bears fruit when the monstrous Barakidon bursts into existence. As the creature emerges from its egg, tremors strike the nearby area, disorienting Hikaru on the surface and even damaging the underground Garoga base.

SpylerSensing the threat, Hikaru transforms into Zone Fighter and engages the rampaging Terror-Beast. Their clash spills across the landscape and continues deep into the night, each exchange of blows highlighting Barakidon's immense strength. Meanwhile, Hotaru acts with equal courage as Zone Angel, infiltrating the damaged Garoga stronghold to rescue Yoko, the missing sister of one of her friends. In the chaos, she also manages to secure the blueprints for Barakidon, uncovering a vital weakness: the monster's power is directly tied to its exposure to heat and light.

Armed with this information, Zone Angel escapes with Zone Junior and Yoko aboard Smokey. They ascend into the night sky and deploy heavy plumes of black smoke, successfully blotting out the moon and plunging the battlefield below into darkness. Deprived of its luminous energy source, Barakidon begins to falter. Desperate, the creature abandons its duel with Zone Fighter and charges toward a cluster of nearby homes still lit from within. Thankfully the heroic warrior intercepts the monster just in time, forcing it back with rapid melee attacks and the devastating Meteor Missile Might.

Still, Barakidon refuses to fall. Only when Zone Fighter switches tactics to unleash his chilling Meteor Freezer does the tide finally turn. A blast of icy mist engulfs the Terror-Beast, freezing its feathered body solid. Without heat or light to sustain it, Barakidon destabilizes and ultimately vaporizes in a brilliant cascade of flashing lights, bringing an end to the Garoga's latest scheme and restoring peace once more.

Powers / Weapons
White smoke

Radioactive smoke

From the tip of its beak, Barakidon can emit a stream of white smoke that can severely weaken its victims. It uses this to great effect against Zone Fighter, and even once against Smokey, though it was more effective against the former.

Hurricane winds from wings

Hurricane winds from wings

Simply by flapping its wing-like arms, Barakidon can generate winds strong enough to stun the mighty Zone Fighter and prevent him from advancing.

For some reason, Barakidon has a habit of striking its long feathered tail against the ground multiple times before and while performing this technique.

Red light from crest

Red light from crest

Barakidon can emit a flashing red light from its cockscomb. While capable of keeping Zone Fighter at bay, its exact properties are unknown.

Eye beams

Eye beams

From its glowing green eyes, Barakidon is capable of discharging deadly rays.

Weaknesses
Light/Heat deprivation

Heat deprivation

Because it was birthed from geothermal energy, Barakidon relies on heat in order to live. If deprived, its cellular tissue breaks down, eventually resulting in death. Zone Fighter and Zone Angel take advantage of this weakness by blocking the moon with smoke and freezing the monster, which led to its demise.

Background and Trivia
  • While the book Toho Special Effects: All Kaiju Illustrated Encyclopedia lists its subtitle as being "Strongest Terror-Beast" (最強恐獣 - Saikyo Kyoju), it is merely referred to as "Terror-Beast" (恐獣 - Kyoju) during its entrance in the show. The book also has its Japanese name written as "Baragidon" (バラギドン) as opposed to the show's "Barakidon" (バラキドン).
  • Its roar is a shorter, higher-pitched version of King Kong's from King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962).
  • Supplementary details, such as its white smoke being radioactive and the mention of its eye beams, can be found in All Kaiju Kaijin (First Volume) (ISBN: 4766909623).
