Description

In the depths of Ichiro's dreams, the young boy explored Monster Island with Minilla. There he saw the King of the Monsters defeat a variety of kaiju, including the Kamacuras, Ebirah, Kumonga and others. He also witnessed Minilla being taught how to breath his atomic ray, relating with the monster on his own experiences learning skills.

However, as the boy cheered on his new friend from the foliage he was unwittingly walking into a trap. In an instant, the child was grabbed by a previously unseen, human size creature. Ichiro was being attacked by a Maneater, a mental manifestation of a real life lowly robber. The robber's real hands reached into the boy's mind in the form of the humanoid plant creature that inhabited the dense shrubbery of the island. This demon tore Ichiro away from his playful fantasies, waking him up to the stark reality that he was being kidnapped by bank robbers.

The Maneater demonstrated no personal feats.

That said, the imaginary beast was quite adapt at hiding amongst the foliage due to natural camouflage. It used this aspect to its advantage when it snuck up on Ichiro.

Background and Trivia
  • The 2005 publication Godzilla: Toho Giant Monster Picture Encyclopedia (ISBN: 4092800525) lists an English name of "Maneater" for the creature and a Japanese name of "Man-Eating Plant" (人喰い植物 - Hitokui Shokubutsu).
  • In 2008, the Cast company released a figure of the monster. This carried the longer name of "Man-Eating Plant of Dream Monster Island" (夢の怪獣島の人食い植物 - Yume no Kaiju to no Hitokui Shokubutsu). The figure was re-released in 2010, as announced on their blog, with the same name.
