Enclosed is a very, very brief interview with Millie Bobby Brown, who will be starring in the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Afterwards, will dive into the circumstances that lead up to this.
This interview (or encounter) was conducted on April 16th.
Barron Christopher: Hi Millie! Big Godzilla fan here and I know you're getting ready to start on Godzilla 2 and actually I have your co-star right here! [holds up Godzilla action figure]
Millie Bobby Brown: Oh my gosh!!!
Christopher: Wanted to see if maybe we could a picture of you two together afterwards?
Brown: Yes definitely!
Christopher: What can you say…
Brown: Nothing!
Christopher: [laughs] I know you can't say anything. What drew you to the project and were you a Godzilla fan previously?
Brown: What drew me to the project was the director. He has a passion for animals and animal rights just like I do. I really wanted to work with him because he is obviously an inspiration for me and the project is extremely exciting! [claps hands in excitement]
Interview backstory:
As a lifelong Godzilla fan it's not every day you get the chance to meet a talented actor/actress who's getting ready to star in an upcoming big budget American Godzilla movie and so when I found out that actress Millie Bobby Brown, star of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things and who is set to star in the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters the sequel to Godzilla (2014), would be attending Indiana Comic Con this was a potential once in a life time opportunity that I simply could not pass up!
I arrived about 30 minutes after Comic Con opened on Sunday. Millie's panel was at 1:00pm so knowing with how popular she would be I figured it would be best to go and line up for it as soon as possible. I got there 2 hours before it was set to start and good thing I did because the line grew quickly as soon as I got there. The wait in line was not that bad as it gave me the chance to sit there and interact with various other people who were all there each for different reasons which was really cool. Met a lot of nice people!
About around 12:30pm they began to escort the line into Hall D for Millie's panel. As soon as folks began to enter the room it became a mad dash for the best seats. I made sure to position myself in the front row next to a microphone that way I would have the opportunity to talk to her. I had my tablet out and my phone all set and ready to go but doing this kind of thing by yourself is not easy especially when you are both excited and nervous! I'll admit this was my first time doing something like this so I was very focused on making sure I got it as right as possible. Certainly learned a lot yesterday!
As it hit 1:00pm the panel host immediately came out and introduced Millie to a roaring crowd and let me just say I don't think I've ever seen a nicer person! She is so incredibly polite, funny and just all around a total sweetheart! Her parents and family have a lot to be proud of! This girl has an extremely bright future and I am glad she is a part of the Godzilla franchise now. It was really interesting listening to her tell stories from the set of Stranger Things and the various places she's lived in her life.
After about 15 to 20 minutes into the panel they announced that they would be taking questions from the audience so quickly I spun around and got right up there to the microphone. There were two different spots with microphones so after one fan got to go first it was then my turn. Let me just say that talking to a major star in front of a massive crowd of people while trying to video tape it is no easy task! I definitely need to have someone else with me next time so lesson learned on that one. I quickly introduced myself as a lifelong Godzilla fan to which she became very excited! I welcomed her to the Godzilla franchise and told her how we were all extremely excited for her to be part of the project!
Let me say G-Fans that I absolutely cannot wait to see her in this movie. Not only is she a very talented actress but she is also extremely eager and excited to start working on the movie and I am really excited to find out her character's story in this film. While she obviously could not say anything about the project specifically for obvious reasons I did get the chance to ask her what drew her to the project which I have transcribed above. She talks about director Mike Dougherty and his passion for animal rights, which is something that is extremely important to her. That had me wondering if a potential theme of the movie could be the rights of the monsters and a debate if they actually have rights. That would certainly be something different that we have not seen before and I am all 100% for it. I feel like we had gotten a little hint of that in Kong: Skull Island (2017) so I'm definitely curious to see if that's the case! Now as I was up there I revealed to Millie that I had a little surprise for her. I then held up my Godzilla action figure and jokingly said that her co-star came to visit to which she clapped her hands in delight! I then asked if it was okay to get a photo of the two of them together to which she eagerly replied yes!
As we saw in the after credits scene of Kong: Skull Island (2017) we know full well that all hell is about to break loose on Earth especially now after the events of Godzilla (2014) the general public is fully aware of the existence of monsters it'll be exciting to see how Millie's character handles herself in a world where Godzilla and other monsters exist.
