Re: The Power Rangers/Sentai Thread

Post by DragonZord13 »

I've watched a lot of Super Sentai shows. JAKQ, Battle Fever J, Bioman, Zyuranger, Dairanger, Dekaranger through the currant Toqger series and I can still enjoy Power Rangers. Yeah PR Super Megaforce is not as "Lets make a show of it!" as Gokaiger but PR Super Megaforce isn't Gokaiger. Its Power Rangers! So I don't judge it based on Gokaiger. Plus I find the SS teams that have appeared in Super Megaforce a nice wink and nod to us Super Sentai fans.

Also if anyone is a Kamen Rider fan (if you like Super Sentai, you might as well watch KR. I mean duh!) Ultraman's very own Chaiyo made a unofficial movie where the first five Kamen Riders, (#1, #2, V3, Riderman, and X) team up with the Hindu giant monkey god Hanuman to battle Dark King!
Its a terrible and disturbing movie. But watch it and you'll see the Kamen Rider lore woven in the movie. Plus Chaiyo made their own KR suits and battle scenes!

Here is a link to the movie on Youtube. Its in 11 parts! Hanuman and the FIve Riders:

Hanuman was a character who appeared in Chaiyo's The 6 Ultra Brothers VS the Monster Army. A monkey god Ultraman rip off basically. Hanuman and the Five Riders uses footage and storyline from The 6 Ultraman VS Monsters Army to explain Hanuman's origins. So their in the same cannon/continuity. Hanuman and the Five Riders pull a Saban Brands in this as Chaiyo takes footage from Toei movie Kamen Rider X: Five Riders VS Dark King and and combines it with Thailand footage.

I dig all of the designs with the exception of Gritta. Gritta just looks like Grimace in drag. :/ Schwartz and Nero are my favorite designs of the Shadow Line crew. Hell, the mooks even look badass.
Great looking villains make things a bit more fun to watch, I say. Those are nice designs right there. What do you think is the beast/most fun series and recommended watch?

I'd say it depends. DO you want to compare Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to its source footage? Than watch Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger.

Otherwise I say start your Super Sentai viewings with Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. If you need help locating some subs PM me.

Draglord wrote:Probably Kyoryuger. It's got Dinosaurs and Samba, can't see how you can dislike that. The villains are a bit goofy looking but they all get some good development and you even begin to care about them. The show does get fairly red-centric, but most of the main Kyoryugers get decent development as well. Even though the show could've handled some plot stuff better (especially the ending as that was a letdown), the show was still fun. The movies were great (The one with all three Dino Sentai groups was especially good). Sentai has been making fairly good movies lately. Try watching Gaburincho of Music (one of the Kyoryuger movies) and see how you like it. It doesn't have much a plot but it's very fun. Use Over-Time's files as the video quality and subs are more accurate than TV-Nihon's. If you liked Gaburincho of Music then you'll probably enjoy the whole show.
Red centricity? Can you please elaborate. Why does red seem to be the go-to color?

I will never to this day not understand why Power Rangers will never be as good as the MMPR era.

What about the MMPR era is better than now? Define what you mean by MMPR era. Are speaking of MMPR, PR Zeo, PR, Turbo, and PR InSpace as a whole or simply Mighty Morphin Power Rangers?

I was talking about MMPR season 1-2 but the MMPR era also includes MMPR- In space.

I consider Time Force, Lost galaxy and a couple of other seasons to be just as great or better then the MMPR era but season 1 and season 2 of MMPR was just the best thing to me that power rangers has put out.

The show focuses quite a bit on KyoryuRed, which people find to be annoying to the point where they've made jokes about it. As for Red, the color has been known to be associated with strength, power, chivalry, justice, etc. Plus, red is a popular color amongst kids (hell, it's my favorite color).

Because they pretty much have been phoning it in lately. They don't really try or at least it seems that way.
Red is my favorite color as well. I like to wear it, at least. What is the general consensus of the "Disney era"?

You didn't enjoy MMRP Season 3?! It had Ninjor! Lightspeed Rescue, Jungle Fury, and RPM are so of my favorites. Hell I even like Operation Overdrive and Samurai/Super Samurai! I really like those seasons.

So am I. Alas when folks hear "Power Rangers" they jump to "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", "Green Ranger", "Dragonzord", "Jason!" The PR Dino Charge press info mentioning PR Dino Thunder was a breath of fresh air.

I believe my mother said she used to watch Mighty Morphin Power Rangers when she was younger and would even compare the newer Power Rangers on TV to their older counterparts. I don't remember much of Dino Thunder other than its ear worm intro that floods nostalgia in. How good was it in reality?

I remember being kind of creeped out by the primary antagonist. I wonder if there was a reasoning to it, was there a good reason for a kid to be creeped by him (as in I had sense back then)?

But Jannu wore the armor in Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger! How could you hate this?!

That is bound to cause glaring continuity errors. About the Dino Thunder main villain, how menacing is he? I remember being creeped out by him.

A lot of people agree that RPM is the best of the Disney Era or at least one of the best.
