I thought it was more of a link to the original film. In the 1954 movie, Masaji thinks he's survived the monster that destroyed his ship, but Godzilla catches up with him in the end.

I couldn't really explain it to you. I like dark humor and it takes a lot to put me off - certainly a lot more than a single scene that's only a couple minutes long.

I have a question, in the scene where Mothra emerges from her cristles and flies to Tokyo and two women dressed in white stare at her, was it supposed to be a cameo for the twin faires? Did they play them like in on of the RoM movies or something?

It's simple a nod to the twin fairies, and nothing more.

I'll gladly eat crow if it doesn't turn out that way....but at this point it feels painfully obvious, as it has for months.

I remember reading that one of those girls is the same actress who played Ayana in G3.

This is my favorite design from the Millennium series. The eyes and menace that this incarnation has is almost unmatchable. The best for me is '74 Goji and '64 Goji (Mozugoji) though.

So what do you make of the original Godzilla? He killed a lot more defenseless people.

In Gojira theres a woman holding her children tight as Godzilla is stomping through Tokyo, and she tells them JUST A LITTLE MORE, AND WE'LL SEE DADDY IN HEAVEN, SOON. That scene in GMK is nothing compared to that scene in Gojira.

I just watched it again also and I like GMK more every time. This is probably my favorite Millennium movie because of the unique take on the monsters and the mysticism that plays a prominent role. Also, I really liked the Godzilla suit, especially the eyes.

The twins were played by real-life sisters Ai and Aki Maeda.

Ai played Ayana in GAMERA 3 and Kitano's daughter in the two BATTLE ROYALE films, and had supporting roles in AZUMI 2, SINKING OF JAPAN, DEATH NOTE: THE LAST NAME and THE SHOCK LABYRINTH. Her younger sister Aki played Ayana in the flashback at the beginning of GAMERA 3 and was the female lead in the BATTLE ROYALE movies. She's also one of the stars of LINDA LINDA LINDA.

I would have changed the movie a little, Have Godzilla fight Mothra, King Caesar, and Orochi! It could still be called GMK.

Godzilla goes to Okinawa to battle the guardian monster, King Caesar.
Godzilla goes to Tokyo to fight the guardian monster, Mothra.
Then finally he battles Orochi, the final guardian monster.
The world would be so much nicer if people only used guns on themselves.

GMK Godzilla, Possibly the Most Powerful?

Post by Mincecraft »

Now this is completely open to debate, which I want, and your opinion is yours.

I rank GMK as my favorite Big G movie after the original (can't beat it  ). This is mainly due to the portrayal of Godzilla. I consider this one of the greatest performances of Godzilla to date. He's big, looks scary almost, and his power is almost unmatched! The scene in which he anihalates the military in less than 15 seconds is stunning and is embedded in my head. Plus, he has the best shot of him rising from the bay.

Now, in your opinion, do you agree? If not, which do you prefer and why?

We had a topic exactly like this on the old forum. As I recall, it didn't end well. Topics discussing how powerful a monster is never end well.

As for GMK Godzilla's strength, he's average for a Godzilla. The only reason it looked like he did so much damage was because he was fighting weak monsters. His beam might be powerful, but it takes far too long to charge in order to effective. Without charging the beam, it has no staying power. The main thing that makes him weaker then most Godzilla's, is that he has no means of regeneration. Every Godzilla, except for '54 Godzilla, has super regenerative powers, and can heal just about any wound in seconds. GMK Godzilla couldn't heal a simple shoulder wound over the course of the final act of the film.

So no, I wouldn't say GMK Godzilla is the most powerful Godzilla. That would still go to Heisei Godzilla.

Thank you for your opinion. I'm sure it never ends well  . I am aware that they weakened the Guardians. Although I would say that the Heisei is average as well. Ah well, to each his own.
