From the way things sound from the leaks, I think the Planet Eater is just something that has to be kept from getting down to Earth. As in, defeating Spacegodzilla is what closes the portals that allow it to reach the planet quickly. The Earth isn't really "doomed" by virtue of the Planet Eater existing due to it being so far away that it has no hope of floating to Earth naturally, or at the very least won't make it there until the Sun blows up in a few billion years. Unless I am wrong, and the cliffhanger does really end with the Earth about to be eaten, in which case I have virtually no idea where they could go from there.
It ends with the Planet Eater being gluten intolerant and our excessive amount gives it heartburn.

Not worked up lol. Just realizing that this universe is on a downward trend.
TNE wasn't enough to convince you of that already?
lol I'm in denial about TNE.... i try to defend it. I think it (The downward tend) started with LoM; I like Shaw (young and old), and the kaiju stuff is well done but there's simply not enough of it. The rest of the characters are garbage.
I enjoy it all, but I agree LOM I think tried to do too much. I like the effort, but it might have benefited from one less episode. TNE I enjoyed, and I don't think it's a harbinger for bad things to come.
My gripes with TNE were that the human element for the most part was almost indifferent to the effects of the monsters. A little threat and run in Rome, no real ground level concern showed at the nuclear plant, a quick romp through Cairo to the pyramids then to hollow earth where the monsters all look human sized because of the scale of the H.E. then back to Rio where we get a quick glimpse of the people on the beach, then tear up the city with again, little human danger really expressed. It's almost like..."Well the monsters are fighting again."
I think the juxtaposition between that and the Minus movies where we see and experience the consequences of giant monsters fighting in cities and around humans is very evident.
I guess the progression from G-14 of we have to deal with monsters that can cause catastrophy, which was shown in KOTM, then isolated and even minimized in the latter two movies needs to be course corrected. I want to know the real stakes in what's happening.
