It astounds me to this day how people hold this view of Shin. It`s one of the most crowd pleasing films to date in Japan.

It's not an arthouse film in the strictest sense (if there even is a strict sense to such an ambiguous term), but it definitely has a lot more of an arthouse sensibility than most movies in the genre.

Ultraman the Next. Set out to do what Anno and crew are most likely out to do also: reinvent the character.

Whereas The Next gave Ultraman a Guyver-esque organic armor-like skin texture, anyone have ideas for what other routes they could take (besides the whole Ironman-type power suit from the Netflix anime)? I am guessing they will go the whole being of light approach and give him a more-photon-like skin texture.

Yeah everyone says he can't be freakish cause he's a hero (fair point) but he's also an alien. I think you can find the right balance as Mothra is sort of freakish looking in some incarnations cause they play up the bug part but still retain her kind benevolent nature and heroics.
