Did anyone else think of King Ghidorah's first appearance in GTTHM; forming from fire after coming out of the meteor, when there was fire coming out of the hole in Antarctica before he got out of it?

A guy who randomly stumbled upon this place one day, invested much too much time into it, and now appears to be stuck here for all eternity..and strangely enough, i do not regret it!

Re: King of the Monsters Easter Eggs Thread [Spoilers]
Surprised an obvious one wasn't mentioned - Rodan coming out of a volcano. Didn't the mountain he came out of was a volcano in the first film? And when he reappeared later in the Showa continuity? Never mind Godzilla himself has come out of volcanoes at least once in the franchise.
Another obvious reference, Burning/Fire Godzilla, this film and Destroyah.
Godzilla uses nuclear pulse.
Mothra had a stinger. Didn't she have a stinger in GMK? One of the Millennium movies, although there it was projectile stingers instead of the melee weapon here.
(speaking of Mothra, not a Godzilla reference, but how she used her webbing was very Spider-Man like.)
This one's probably not an easter egg and just a stretch, but during the end newspaper clips there was one saying something about prehistoric plants being a superfood, which reminded me of microoxygen or whatever from Destroyah being touted as being able to make plants grow better or faster or something. Can't remember what it was said to be able to do in the conversation in that film now, and again probably not a reference, but it still reminded me of it.

I don't remember Mothra ever having a stinger, but I could be wrong. What that scene reminded me of was the climax of Godzilla vs. Megaguirus. Just this time the reptilian kaiju doesn't catch the insect kaiju's stinger dramatically, and is instead stabbed by it dramatically. I really need to watch both scenes side-by-side to be sure (honestly I've only watch Megaguirus once as it is) to be sure, but I think that they're even shot and framed similarly.Vakanai wrote:Didn't she have a stinger in GMK? Anguirus does appear in the film in the form of a skeleton outside Godzilla's lair. It might hint at their alliance.

Just rewatched GMK tonight, and she does shoot a bunch of small projectiles, I guess maybe mini-stingers, during the fight. Definitely think it could have been an inspiration for a more grounded stinger.Mecha-SpaceGhidorah wrote:I don't remember Mothra ever having a stinger, but I could be wrong. Dougherty discussed in an interview that it was inspired by the ancient civilization stuff in Mothra and Kong movies._JNavs_ wrote:Is the idea that Godzilla was worshipped by what seems to be Atlantis a reference to Gamera being Atlantis' protector? Or is that a Yoga Reach
It might also harken back to the De Bont Godzilla script where he was created by Atlantis.

Another Easter egg that I eventually realized some time after watching the movie, is that the way Godzilla enters Boston was identical to his first appearance in Terror Of Mechagodzilla.

Could just be another member of his species though. I'm hoping that's the case because if it really IS Anguirus himself, I might not be too saddened if the Monsterverse ends after GvK.Living Corpse wrote:FUUUCKCryptid_Liker wrote:Anguirus does appear in the film in the form of a skeleton outside Godzilla's lair. Re: King of the Monsters Easter Eggs Thread [Spoilers]
Ok so I've compiled a list of Easter Eggs and possible Easter Eggs after seeing the movie like 5 times lmao. Lemme know what you guys think.
KOTM Easter Egg list
•“Stomp-stomp-stomp-skreeonk” at the beginning of the film is a direct callback to the opening of the 1954 film. This is also present when Godzilla enters Boston.
•“Destroy All Monsters” protest sign
•Mothra larva changing red when angry and blue when calm is a reference to Showa larva’s eyes going red when angry and also Tokyo SOS.
•Dr. Chen and her twin Dr. Ling are obvious reference to the Shobijin (possibly intended to be more than just a reference considering the film that never got to be filmed)
•Dr. Chen’s ancestors on Infant Island in 1961
•Dr. Chen defends subtly defends Mothra from Dr. Stanton’s comments, plus the fact she looks like she is praying right before Mothra enters the battle in Boston.
•Underwater Maser Cannons
•We briefly hear the classic BIDIBIDIBIDIBIDI at Fenway with Madison right before Ghidorah lands.
•“Monster Zero” is an obvious callback
•Rodan living in a volcano is a callback to 1956 and 1964
•Most outposts, if not all, are a reference to some movie’s release year in the franchise (54, 56, 61, 75, 91, 92, 55, 33, 72, 95, 32 is half of 64 and is also a shout out to The Thing)
•“it’s an intimidation display…like a gorilla pounding its chest”
•Brooks from KSI was at the waterfall
•Mothra’s sacrifice to power up Godzilla resembles that of Fire Rodan in 1993
•The way Mothra’s wings are shown in the nuclear pulses strongly resemble how they are portrayed on the poster for the 1992 movie.
•Burning Godzilla is an obvious callback
•“Godzilla is gonna reach Critical Mass”, Godzilla Unleashed reference, and Burning Goji resembles CM Goji 2000
•GKG powers; ungodly regeneration powers and lightning from wing tips
•Kaiser Ghidorah powers; vampire bite drains Godzilla’s power.
•Rodan’s Giant Claw moment eating the pilot.
•Godzilla’s entrance into Boston is strongly identical to his entrance in Terror of MechaGodzilla when he blasts Titanosaurus over (at first I thought I was just reaching but I’m glad that others have pointed this out too)
•Serizawa sacrificing himself for Godzilla is a direct parallel to that of the 1954 scene. Back then, he took the Oxygen Destroyer to kill Godzilla who had been born from nuclear bombs. This time, he takes a nuclear bomb to revive Godzilla who had been injured from the Oxygen Destroyer.
•Ghidorah seeing Godzilla get back up in Antarctica and being like “fuck this” before flying off is reminiscent of his nature in the Showa and Heisei eras.
•Mothra’s (Easter) egg being found in the credits.
•Godzilla’s Showa roar is present.
Ones that may or may not be intentional Easter eggs
•Burning Godzilla’s spines crackles with purple lightning for a moment, perhaps a reference to Scarlet Godzilla?
•Dr. Chen’s “it’s like a song” when Mothra shows up
•When Dr. Ling removes her hood and Mothra’s Song plays, the way she moves her arms downwards is strangely reminiscent (to me) of how Mothra’s Fairies would move in the earlier films when singing.
•“That’s how he’s survived all this time… always changing, adapting” this could be more of a meta reference, referring to how the character of Godzilla has survived 65 years by always changing and adapting to different time eras and audiences.
•The whole “that skeleton might be Angurius” thing…idk, just doesn’t feel completely right that it’s just mentioned in a tweet, just kinda looks like a big ribcage to me.
•The credit scene texts talks about a civilization that sounds very similar to the ones the Cosmos talked about in the 92 movie. I can try to type up what the redacted text said if anyone is curious.
•Mothra’s “Queen of the Monsters” status might also be a meta reference to the fact she is Toho’s second most popular kaiju.
•Serizawa and Chen’s scene when he volunteers to go himself is oddly reminiscent of Serizawa and Emiko from 1954. This might just be me who thinks it, but I’d like to hear other’s opinions on it.
•Saying Godzilla is gonna reach meltdown in 12 minutes; could 12 minutes be a light reference to 1200 degrees, Burning Godzilla’s temp in 1995?
Sloppy Easter Eggs
•The Oxygen Destroyer. Yeah.
•The critical response to the movie. Like yeah Dougherty, we know you paid critics to do that as a reference to 1998’s critical response, but gotta say that was not thought out well. /s in case someone can't tell it's a joke

Fair enough, I figured when writing them up that a good chunk was gonna be due to coincidence rather than an actual "Easter Egg", although I'll have to disagree with you on the larva colours and the Mothra sacrifice being a callback to '93, or the "gorilla pounding its chest" is a pretty clear nod to Kong imo.UltramanGoji wrote: Pretty much all of these I disagree with. Here are some other references I found:
-MBB having goggles is CLEARLY a throwback to Godzilla 2000 since the family had goggles too
-Emma is, and this is a duh-moment, a reference to an obscure character called Thanos from a movie called Infinity War
-Ghidorah’s heads getting “dusted” is a CLEAR reference to Thanos dying in Endgame
-In the final battle where Godzilla forces Ghidorah to fall, his legs are up to the air which an OBVIOUS callback to how the kaiju would fall when they were still man in suits
-Charles Dance’s black thing he’s wearing is a callback to the main villain in GFW
-Godzilla swimming underwater is a subtle nod to the Little Mermaid swimming underwater
