So...I just want to say that I found the live action films absolutely awful.

The Manga is fantastic...and the Anime is great fun.

AoT is probably my favorite Manga/Anime ever so I did find the movies to be disappointing as adaptations, but I've come to love them as their own giant monster films and they are some of the few films in that category that can be considered straight up horror films. The Titans are truly some of the scariest things I have ever seen on film and I find them to be far more terrifying than even the ones in the anime. The Hollywood AoT will be lucky if their effects come even close to what Toho did with their films.

I think an adaptation of AoT would work best if it was done in Germany.

Um, what makes you say that?

Most of the characters in the original Manga are...European in appearance.

Can I say that?

And it’s in a faux-steampunk European-type setting.

.....

Legend, are you refrencing what I think you're referencing?

Because if so, bold choice to bring it up but maybe not a good idea.

So as long as it is a co-production with Japan. It could give them a boost in budget among other things to get it right.

oh thank Christ

Yeah! that could work. especially if you consider the way the Titans resemble old school German folktales about trolls.

My memory is foggy but I’m pretty sure at one point they explicitly reference that the waifu character is explicitly Japanese/Asian in contrast to the rest of the cast. All the names are pretty much German as well.

I'll start off by saying I'm largely unfamiliar with the manga and anime but it's something I've always been meaning to check out.

But I really enjoyed the live action films. Are they great? Er… but in terms of gory tokusatsu spectacle I liked them a lot. They're like War of the Gargantuas meets Tokyo Gore Police, which for me at least is a winning combination. I don't expect the upcoming Hollywood version to be as violent and joyous in that way. Higuchi and his guys pulled off some great satisfying moments.
