Anyways, has this movie already surpassed KOTM in terms of BO?
Not yet. I would say including the current totals for China and the domestic market, GvK sits at around 320-330M while KOTM reached 380M. It's pretty close. What we can say definitively is that it has surpassed KOTM in China and is only 7M off at beating KSI's China total which is amazing to see.

I think it could top KOTM, it's pretty feasible at this point. I would argue in China maybe it ends at 180M. Domestic, maybe 110M total. That's 290M. If we assume it gets on the lower end of the foreign market excluding China (so let's go with KOTM figures) then add around 140M to that and we get 430M. So I think it has a good chance at reaching 430M. I hope Showzilla's numbers/calculations come to fruition though

I'm so happy to see this film succeed. And it has succeeded in a way that makes BOTH Legendary and Warner Brothers happy.

Warner Brothers has gotten its most successful HBO Max film out of this. And Legendary has gotten a strong box office performance and a big HBO Max pay off from Warner Brothers.
Come fourth, Ghidorah! Great Golden Winged Destroyer; deliver onto us a beautiful demise!

Well see the inflation numbers after it's full theatrical release and run. I'm sure this film will easily cross 500 million and even if it doesn't it's already nearly doubled its budget.

Yeah at this point I see absolutely no logical reason for them to abandon the MV, they made profit on top of HBO buff, people loved the movie, fans wanted more, 80% on the RT, endless potential to the expansion, yeah It's phase 2 time :).

GvsKong should be around the 350m worldwide mark when those totals come in. Hopefully well over.

At 165m in China. With Sunday included at 69.5 domestically.

I mean, with the HBO Max buyout and cut of those profits, Legendary made some serious moola with this film even before it hit the threaters. Everything with the Box Office is basically a post-victory lap. And given Legendary's head honcho voiced that multiple ideas for continuations have already been on the table, it seems the MV is pretty assured as a whole. And look at the track record. 2014? Solid hit. Skull Island? Solid hit. KOTM? Not a hit, but not a loss either (fact it did so well in the blackhole that was Post-Endgame speaks for itself). And between the streaming perks and Box Office, GvK is probably a verified blockbuster at this point.

“ Film finance sources have been telling us that as Legendary’s Godzilla vs. Kong hits $357.8M WW today, the pic is already set to bring cash back to Warner Bros. –an estimated $96.4M currently–even with the controversial HBO Max line item in the mix”

Added in 30 seconds:
“Total up all the revenues, and that brings GvK to $326.4M. Substract the $160M production cost and an estimated global P&A of $70M (because Europe and Brazil aren’t open), and that brings the movie’s current projected profit to $96.4M before off-the-tops, interest, and overhead. The first Godzilla from Legendary ranked in our 2014 Box Office tournament and netted $52.4M after $62.6M in combined interest/off-the-tops/overhead and participations. Even if that cost was applied against GvK, the movie would still be north of breakeven.”

A 60% drop is fairly normal for blockbusters, but according to Deadline, GvK came in at a 58%, showing better repeat viewing value than initially anticipated. Wonderful!

Combine that with the previous Deadline report posted above and we've got ourselves a VERIFIABLE winner, boys! =D

Somewhere between $400-$440 million seems to be the end game.

It depends on the hold here in the states. The 58% drop after a holiday is normal but let’s see what happens next weekend so we can get a better idea.

The movie is getting quite a bit of free promo from celebs like Bill Maher and a funny string of tweets by Leslie Jones as she (dramatically) narrates along some video snippets of the movie.

This article indicates that insiders claim WB paid Legendary simply its costs on the project in exchange for the rights to the entire movie, which would mean Legendary gets no profit from it.

I really hope this is incorrect as I want Legendary to profit from it taking a chance on the MV and having motivation to continue it.
