Monster Zero has always been one of my top favorites, Honda and Tsuburaya at the top of their game.
DAM fluctuates it is good, but does takes some drastic storytelling short cuts.
I would still put Final Wars over DAM.

I once had its DvD because Im a completionist.....one day my son lost the GFW DVD and instead of getting mad I congratulated him because thats how big a fan I am...no matter how hard I tried I couldnt pull the trigger in throwing it out myself.

I don’t think it necessarily has to be either/or. I prefer when these are well made movies but I enjoy a lot of the ones that’s aren’t.

The difference here is that I can find everything I like about it in other Godzilla movies. The negatives decidedly outweigh whatever positives there are.

I mean every Godzilla movie has its strengths and weaknesses, they either have a great story or great spectacles, or both going on for them , but some fans are quick to ignore things like execution for the sake of all-out action to keep them interested. As long as the scenes are moving along and it’s snappy, it’s automatically “good” to a lot of fans and arguing about things things like faithfulness and execution just goes in one ear and out the other.


This film caters to what Toho (or someone) thought its target audience was I feel.

There’s just two sides of the overall fandom, not everyone fits this mold mind you but there’s a lot that do.

I have no problems with a movie being “fun” but that “fun” has to work and throwing a bunch of ideas all together without much thought might not be the best thing to do for a franchise as long running and set in its ways as this one.

There’s a right way to be different and a wrong way.

I found it to be a heated mess, you know where heat is applied to the mess making it messier.

I will say this....where they fucked up the most was with GIGAN. I mean WTF were they thinking. Yes, I am biased because Gigan is one of my most favorite kaiju. He had the most potential out of ALL of them and he gets his head blown off clean fairly fast...Don't half ass my favorite Kaiju just to be able to give him buzzsaw,chainsaw whatever hands man...

He felt like Edward Scissor hands to me.......like if you dropped him off in the forrest and left him alone and came back you'd find freaking lawn sculpted trees all over the damn place.

I can understand it as a preference, but "definitive"? Isn't that just historically inaccurate? At least difficult to support, since I don't know of a mountain of subsequent materials that have treated the chainsaw hands as the character's default appearance.

I can only assume that since it's still the latest version of the character, then popping up in somewhat modern media (PS4 Godzilla), this is enough justification for some.
