* Last Kaiju-related films you bought on VHS/DVD/Blu-ray?

Postby GodzillaDude » Fri May 31, 2013 8:10 am

It's pretty self explanatory, what was the last/most recent kaiju-related vhs tape, dvd or blu-ray you bought?

I ordered these for my birthday and they arrived yesterday!
Gamera (Heisei) Trilogy Blu-ray Pack (Guardian of the Universe, Advent/Attack of the Legion, Revenge/Awakening of Irys)
War of the Gargantuas/Rodan Double Feature DVD
Invasion of the Astro Monster DVD
Mothra vs. Godzilla DVD

Does it really have to be Kaiju/Godzilla? If not, I just bought INCIDENT AT BLOOD PASS at my FYE for $15.

Technically it's not the same. In that was just about Godzilla films. This one is about kaiju films in general.

GMK and the Vs. Destoroyah/SpaceGodzilla double feature I bought from someone in person.

And today I ordered Frankenstein vs. Baragon, my favorite non-Godzilla kaiju film.

I've been on a decent kaiju kick lately and have been filling in some of the holes in my collection.

Got Sony's "Icons of Sci-Fi: Toho Collection" along with the '90s Gamera Blu-Ray set the other week, and currently have Blu-Ray copies of Gamera the Brave, Criterion's Godzilla, and Tokyo Shock's Dogora DVD on the way.

It's a shame the Toho 3-pack with Varan, Matango and the Mysterians is out of print and so hard to find at a decent price now. I was hoping to be able to snatch that up as well, as I've never seen any of them except the American cut of Varan.

I also Netflix'd GODZILLA '98 recently and was surprised by how much I kind of enjoyed it. Used to absolutely loath it, but I'll probably include the Blu-Ray in whatever my next order is since it's dirt-cheap.

How sweet! Please take a pic of that screen. I have been wanting to see it for sometime.

SO you also have a PAL VCR and TV?

The last kaiju DVD I bought is technically Ultra Q, but I'm not sure it counts since I just pre-ordered it. Needless to say, I'm excited!

I just bought Gargantua on VHS. I use to rent it as a kid and found it on the side of the streets in Toronto for $1.

Just before I grabbed that I grabbed Gamera the Brave on Blu-Ray.

Cool, I might have the same VHS tape as you.

Yeah? I hope mine works, I've been in between places and haven't had a chance to get my VCR. None-the-less I'm excited for the nostalgia to pour in.

Godzilla 2000
GMK
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla
Godzilla Tokyo SOS

Slowly crossing items off the list and now have GMK (DVD) and GODZILLA '98 (Blu-Ray) on the way.

Those may mark my last kaiju movie purchases for a while. Most of what I'm missing from Toho's library is now out of print and hard to find. I keep thinking about biting on some of Shout! Factory's Showa Gamera films, but they just don't hold much interest for me.

I've been filling in the gaps in my dvd collection as best as I can.

King Kong vs Godzilla/King Kong Escapes: 2-pack
Godzilla's Revenge: Classic Media w/American and Japanese versions
Destroy All Monsters: Media Blasters (snagged it off of ebay, unopened for a decent price compared to amazon)
Godzilla vs Megalon: Media Blasters...bare bones release :(
Godzilla 1985: Japanese version w/a making of feature after the credits
Godzilla vs Biollante: Echo Bridge version
Godzilla vs Space Godzilla/Godzilla vs Destroyah: TriStar double pack
Rodan/War of the Gargantuans: Classic Media double pack
I'm gonna start doing horror/sci-fi/kaiju/exploitation film reviews, check it out won't you?
