Oh, I didn't realize this. Thank you for letting me know. I'll be sure to take these links down, but the thread itself is still open in case an authentic print is sold.

Haven't posted on here in a while, so I'll mention I just found a pretty cool item, a 16mm I.B. tech of King Kong vs Godzilla, it's cut to about 8 minutes, but the color looks great and its relatively cheap. Wanted to let collectors know.

Although this is IB Tech and it looks pretty, something like this - a short fragment with splices at the end - is NOT considered relatively cheap by most film collectors' standards. We haven't even seen the final bid yet. I guarantee it will be at least $100 before it ends. Way overpriced even as it stands, just like any sci-fi and monster films on eBay except King Kong (a million dupes were printed).Servanov wrote:Haven't posted on here in a while, so I'll mention I just found a pretty cool item, a 16mm I.B. tech of King Kong vs Godzilla, it's cut to about 8 minutes, but the color looks great and its relatively cheap. Are you baller enough to drop $550 on a Russian-lektor'd faded Свема 35mm print of BIOLLANTE? Why, that's almost as affordable as one of the new Mezco figures!

Man, if it was English dubbed or even Russian with english subs (and preferably less faded though I understand why that might not be possible) I’d be very interested.Joseph Goodman wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 12:11 pm Are you baller enough to drop $550 on a Russian-lektor'd faded Свема 35mm print of BIOLLANTE? Such a magenta hue for a print that is no more than 30 years old, I guess long persistent dyes were beyond the reach of the Russian distributors.

That’s a good point. It was right around 1983 in the US when color film stocks became dramatically more stable. I don’t remember all the technical reasons, I just know it’s really easy to find Return of the Jedi (1983) prints that still have great color while it’s nearly impossible to find original prints or Star Wars (1977) or The Empire Strikes Back (1980) that aren’t cherry red unless they spent a nice chunk of their lives in cold storage.
But I’ve gotten so used to seeing badly faded Eastman prints that it didn’t even occur to me that Biollante was from 1989 and should have been available on more stable stock…

It is actually English-dubbed, it just has a Russian voiceover on top of it.canofhumdingers wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 4:08 pmMan, if it was English dubbed or even Russian with english subs (and preferably less faded though I understand why that might not be possible) I’d be very interested.Joseph Goodman wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 12:11 pm Are you baller enough to drop $550 on a Russian-lektor'd faded Свема 35mm print of BIOLLANTE? Weird. That sounds like it’d be difficult to watch for speakers of either language.

I can't imagine watching an entire movie that way for enjoyment myself, but it's historically a popular localization technique in Russia.

Yeah in Eastern Europe we don't do dubbing for actor-movies. Only for animation.
However in Poland we've never used voiceover (one man read all dialogue lines) in cinemas. Only for TV and VHS/DVD.

Check the subject lines of the posts. There were two separate threads merged.Joseph Goodman wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 12:53 pm Obviously you didn't read the last few posts in the thread, kid.

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Mods quick on the draw, didn't even see the other thread!
There's a 16mm 'scope print of Godzilla vs The Thing on Ebay, but it's from the same sketchy South African seller mentioned on the first page.

Re: Official Godzilla/Tokusatsu 35mm/16mm Print Watchlist Thread
My guess is timing, Biollante was made just as Russia was opening up to "western media", so Biollante may have gotten some fair (licit or otherwise) exposure in the Motherland. As we saw with the prior auction, the price is ludicrous if the print's colors have turned to magenta (or cyan or yellow).Joseph Goodman wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 6:59 am What is it with these Russian prints of Biollante?

I think it's likely the same print changing hands.
