I'm secretly holding out for the Baltan but original kaiju would be welcome just to see what Anno and Higuchi would come up with.

This. Baltan hasn't have any major roles since Ultraman Max, which was 15 years ago, and has only made cameos in various entries since then. I'm really hoping that Shin Ultraman will give the character a proper comeback and reestablish him as one of the most iconic Ultraman baddies.

It would be weird if it starts off as Pagos and mutates into something else. Or a cyber Bemular would be cool.

I'm hoping that the Baltan will be the main villains who send kaiju out like in Powered. As for the two kaiju, I'm hoping for one classic and one new.

Since Ultraman's design is so classic I kind of hope they go nuts with the enemy monster design.

Something similar to Anno's fan film from way back yonder. A weird cyber Bemular to nod at the manga would be good. A Pagos/Neronga Hybrid? Maybe a strange, dark matter spawned Zetton?

Any real estimates when we may expect more news?

I'd guess December not only because that's when the teaser for Shin Godzilla came out but also because TsubuCon is that month

I would be hyped for a teaser trailer. Been fun getting into the Ultraman fandom this past year.
I unapologetically, wholeheartedly, and without a doubt hate Godzilla vs Kong.

Me, too. I just watched my first Ultra show (the Netflix anime) this January.

Haven't seen it, but I've been collecting the new Blu-rays and I've watched about half of them. Been fun and interesting. Although sometimes it's weird seeing decades old monster designs next to modern ones. Kind of wish they'd update the suits a bit, but eh, nitpicking. At least it's obvious that they respect what came before.

I heard somewhere that back in the early 90’s, they considered using a three-legged Baltan for Ultraman Towards the Future. Honestly, I like that idea as it would make Ultraman’s most iconic foe less humanoid.

I am talking three-legged as in this a tri-pod from War of the Worlds.

Get your head out of the gutter.

Yeah, I know. How they would've done it is a mystery to me.

It was probably a mystery to them too, that's why it never happened I'm guessing.
Taking the Baltan design, a suit a human must wear, and making a third leg actually work? I can't see it not being horrible. Sort of needs to be a CG creature to make it work at all. Or maybe it could be done as a puppet. But not a suit.

Actually are there any Ultra kaiju done through puppetry instead of suitamation? I mean Godzilla has Mothra.

Quite a few aliens from Ultraseven in particular are realized through puppets such as Chibull, Cool, Villa, Nurse, Poll, etc. There's also the Saucer Beasts from Leo who were puppets in order to save on the show's budget late in the game.

Anno mentions he prefers aliens to monsters in Ultraman and has a preference to Zarab in this interview.

His famous fan film features this alien monster as well...

But after such a classic Ultra design in the wake of Shin Godzilla I don't know what to expect.

Is that official concept art of the monster from Anno's fanfilm? Since holy hell, pictures of that guy are hard to come by.
