I think they're not taking it serious enough.

And yet even the main site covers plenty of non sci-fi stuff, as Toho is a prolific and diverse company. Either way, it's not worth getting offended over.

You're right. I don't think they understand how much the Hiroshi Inagaki essays I assigned are going to impact their final user grades on the main site (and colleges and employers check these things out).

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Re: Mothra (1961)
Well... Mothra did have some of the most impressive, sprawling miniature work in the Showa series. Especially for the scale they were working in. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they have to scale Mothra down a bit for Mothra vs Godzilla?

Re: Mothra (1961)
They did. The Mothra larva in this movie is 180 meters long, while the ones in MvG are just 53 meters long. And the Imago is 80 meters long with a wingspan of 250 meters, while MvG’s is 65 meters long and only has a wingspan of 135 meters. Godzilla would have looked absolutely puny if Mothra was the same size she was here in 64.Major sssspielberg! wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 2:13 pmCorrect me if I'm wrong but didn't they have to scale Mothra down a bit for Mothra vs Godzilla?
Added in 3 minutes 21 seconds:
In terms of props they definitely scaled the Larva down, good god, even the small one for the Tokyo Tower scene looks massive compared to the ones in 64.

The scenes involving the large prop (33 feet long) are some of my favorite monster scenes in the entire Toho canon.

Happy 60th to the best fucking kaiju Toho made and probably their most influential non-Godzilla output in the kaiju genre.

Re: Mothra (1961)
In addition to the excellent effects, the movie also has a strong musical element. The opening credit score has a more friendly tone than previous kaiju films, but it matches the tone of the film. The songs performed by the Shobjin are well choreographed, and their voices are lovely.

Am I the only one who really craves a Birley's every time I watch this, despite never having one?

This film is better than every Godzilla film outside of Mothra vs Godzilla (1964).

Re: Mothra (1961)
I think it's on near-equal footing with the 1954 Godzilla. I give the nod to the earlier film, but Godzilla and Mothra pretty much stand head and shoulders above nearly every other tokusatsu film, IMO. Only a few others are really close, including MvG.
