Shinkichi Yamane
This has been bugging me- when in the film is it implied/shown that Dr. Yamane has adopted Shinkichi? In the classic media dvd commentary, Ryfle and Godziszewski mention how he is taken in by the family (emblematic of children orphaned by the atomic bombings). I don't recall any scene in the film itself explaining why he is always tagging along with Yamane and Ogata. Indeed, there is a deleted scene where Yamane visits the graves of Shinkichi's family, yet that never made the final cut. Was this retconned by KOTM/Destoroyah? Was it intended to be easily inferred at the time of release?

Most likely.
