Arena: A barren wasteland

Rules:
- Endgame Thanos, armed with the helicopter sword. No Infinity Stones.
- No retreat.
- No foreknowledge for either.

Verdict: I find myself having to abstain here, both are incredibly powerful and deadly warriors who could carve the other apart if they can get a good blow in and capitalize on it. Arguments could be made for either Thanos facing a lot more heroes or Steppenwolf facing a smaller group of more powerful heroes than the majority that Thanos went against.

Yeah, what Thanos showed in his fight against Thor, Cap and Iron Man is that of a trained, skilled, and faster fighter than Steppenwolf, and given his blade was cutting through Cap's shield, it is going to flat Steppenwolf alive.
