Favorite King Kong incarnation

After the bloodbath that was the Godzilla Design Bracket Challenge I thought something similar pertaining to King Kong was in order.

Check out the Wikizilla article on Kong for more info/pics.

Holding off. Love the '33. '05, and MV versions. Also always digged the '86 design although I can't remember almost anything about the movie.

1933, particularly in New York.

Original, 76, and MV for me personally.
And a spiritual nod for Universal/05.
I unapologetically, wholeheartedly, and without a doubt hate Godzilla vs Kong.

33 all the way. I don't get the MV vibe. Sure it's cool, but nowhere near the Coop and Shorty masterpiece, the milestone in movie history that is 33 Kong.

I enjoy them all to varying degrees except for 76 & KKL. I own those movies on dvd for the sake of being complete, but have no desire to revisit either one.

The fact that rapey, died-from-plane-bullets RKO is tying with axe wielding, Godzilla and Mecha fighting badass MV is absolutely insulting

Well he's beating MV Kong now.

Anyway, cast my vote for the 1977 Kong. As I stated in... whatever unpopular opinion/confession thread I stated this in... I'm not a fan of the movie itself, but the design is what springs to my mind when I think "King Kong." The fact that the Universal Studios Tram Tour Kong was based off this design probably plays into that.

Monsterverse is a close second, but Kong always looks better with black fur, I think.

Peter Jackson, all the way. Whenever I think of King Kong, this is what I imagine every time. Nothing beats Andy Serkis gorilla.

Voted for RKO, KKE and Universal.

RKO is one of cinema's greatest achievements in one of the coolest movies ever made.

It was tough choosing between the Toho versions (they're fugly but full of personality in highly enjoyable movies), but I ultimately went with the live action cartoon that is KKE, probably the most underrated Kong film.

I don't like the De Laurentiis version at all.

MonsterVerse is very cool, from awkward apelike teenager to beefed up action hero adult, but I've always preferred the tone and approach given to the Universal version.

The 33 Kong is my favorite. Universal Kong and MV Kong are also good versions of the character, but the original will always be first.

Nothing touches the original. The only Kong movie I really am into anyway. It was original and a fantastic combination of primal and intelligent. I haven't even seen some of the movies that pictures in this thread posted and I don't want to. They look awful. Nothing can touch the classic as far as I am concerned. A legend was made in that movie.

Don't like the MonsterVerse but it's iteration of Kong is easily one of the best things about it (helps KSI is the MV's best movie). Still 2005 is my favorite film and Kong. Andy Serkis just gives him so much personality. However MV action hero Kong is an interesting take on the character.

70's Kong all the way. That Kong suit is akin to the '62 but just better all around and very expressive. I would have loved to see this version of Kong against Godzilla.

I just want the MV Kong to kick the 33's ass.

Also I think the Peter Jackson Kong is the dullest of every other incarnation.

When I was in undergrad studying film, the director of our program was a guy named Will Shephard, whose acting background included being the "stunt" Kong suit actor doubling Ricking Baker in the '76 Kong film.

But, of course, I'll always remember him best for his performance as "Rock Freak" in Phantom of the Paradise.

RKO and Monsterverse. 62 looks like the most inbred creature to have ever existed, 67 is perpetually crying so much he can't even see, 1976 most definitely owns a white van, and 2005 is just a big monkey

Kong '62 is a reason to site that nobody's perfect, even Eiji Tsuburaya.
