So today I went to see Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Boy, what a surprise! It was much more fun than I expected. I dare to say, it's one of the best movies I've seen this year.

The Clovehitch Killer (2018)

Image

So I tracked this one down on a recommendation
from Mike & Jay from Red Letter Media...and well...
it was good.

Not great...but it was a solid film with some creepy
moments & great performances...but it didn't really
click for me.

Still...if you can handle a slow burn...its worth your
time to at least watch once.

Last night I watched, Meet the Hollowheads. Good god, was it weird and uncomfortable to sit through. It's like a dark piss take of the Jetsons made by Tim Burton if he had just had some sort of stroke. The movie made little sense, but at the same time had very little going on.

I would recommend it, just to see how weird it is.

Finished Season 3 of Attack on Titan. It was alright. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Re-watched Hobo With a Shotgun. What a great movie! It's so crazy and the colors are incredible. The opening looks like technicolor and it's great.

Halloween (2018)

Image

So...it took them 40 years...but they actually made another good
Halloween film. Its well shot, well acted, well written & overall its a
great homage to the original classic while still doing its own thing.

Okay...so I watched Krampus (2015) for the first time this morning &
it was great & it has increased my confidence in Michael Dougherty
& Godzilla: King Of The Monsters as an artistic piece of art.

Image

And then tonight I watched Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)
& I was actually shocked at how much I enjoyed it. I think it was just all the
crazy creatures & the incredibly beautiful Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein.

Image

I nice to be reminded there are creative & well written films out there.

Holmes and Watson. I had fun with it since I saw it with a couple friends.
The film's pacing was definitely off, and the villain was horribly lackluster. Eh, it did have some pretty funny jokes and a musical scene which I loved  . It's a 5/10.

Another Michael Dougherty film I'd never seen before and
again...it was very fun. Can Dougherty please direct the
eventual Gremlins sequel/reboot or a new Critters film?

Please?

Mary Poppins Returns

Just got back from Mary Poppins Returns. Quite a good movie very whimsical in the right ways.

I really enjoyed the fact that they used classic animation in this movie in addition to modern effects. Not just for a brief moment it's a major sequence of the film and used to establish the tone of the film in it's entirety. Didn't have to modernize it or change itself. Well done.

The Colossus of Destiny: A Melvins Tale (2016)

Image

If their success matched their influence...they would
be as big (if not bigger) than Metallica. A fantastic
look at a band who are NEVER afraid to try something
new.

Zootopia (2016)

Image

So...this was only my second viewing of this film
& its still a well made, harmless "kids" film...but
I still have one question.

Where are all the Reptiles at?

Krull (1983)

Image

More like dull...

Seriously...this was so BORING...

I'd never seen it before...and now I know I wasn't
missing out on much.

(Yes...I watch a lot films)

And now, we must be mortal enemies.

I will be over here in the corner with my replica glaive whenever you are ready to duel to the death. :)

Saw Tokyo Drifter last night. It's a mess of a film, great staging and sets can't save it from the messy editing and pace. The lead is cool and all but the film couldn't draw me in outside of two moments. Immediately watched Die Hard afterwards and started the new year with that one. One of the slickest and punchiest action films of all time, I miss McTiernan's skills in the modern movie landscape of endless superheroes and uninspired remakes/reboots.

You'll need something better than a replica glaive...

Especially considering how effective it was in the
film itself.

Seriously...when was the last time you watched Krull?

2018. One of my favorite films. And a fantastic score to boot.

If you'd prefer my wife and I to use the flamethrower powers generated by our love instead, she does feel quite the same way about the film... :)

It's pretty awesome but I don't think McQuarrie hits the same highs. He's definitely fantastic in his own right anyways.

Wow...

Okay...I found it completely boring with too many characters
& an over dramatic score to point where I was laughing at it.

Different strokes for different folks...

No need for the flamethrowers...

You just stay with your wife in your love nest...
& watch Krull together.

Oh.My.God!!!

(I'd never even thought of that as an option...)

I watched The Butterfly Effect last night. I can't believe I didn't see this film earlier, it hits on literally all cylinders. The acting, premise, story, pacing, characters, everything top-to-bottom is great. I never thought I'd fall in love with an Ashton Kutcher performance in a serious action film, but man, he hits it out of the park here. The overall concept is not only original (for its time), but it's executed spectacularly. Oh, and Amy Smart is always a nice bonus, especially since we don't see her in many movies nowadays. I haven't seen the sequels (and that might be a good thing because I heard they're terrible), but I quite enjoyed the first one.

Well, I just watched Pacific Rim: Uprising today, and it was.... mediocre.

Although, to its credit, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
