Movies you refuse to see for personal reasons

Post by KManX89 »

What are some movies you've boycotted for your own personal reasons?

As for me, I refuse to watch A Serbian Film or anything torture porn. I love me some Logan, John Wick and Deadpool movies, but I draw the line at torture porn. It's just sick shit for the sake of sick shit, let's be honest. I watched Captivity on HBO when I was bored out of my mind not knowing what it was about and felt sick to my stomach, without going into spoilers.

On that note, I refuse to watch either of The Human Centipede sequels, though I did watch the first one online out of morbid curiosity and it was surprisingly tame despite its concept. It was mostly just a boring mess. The two sequels I hear are much more explicit and even worse movies, exactly why I refuse to watch them.

Aside from that, I refuse to watch anything by Aaron Seltzer/Jason Friedberg (the "____ Movies") and pretty much any modern day Adam Sandler comedy. Obvious reasons.

Post-Ice Age 3 given how much the franchise degraded.

Any live-action Disney films as they're just lifeless carbon copies of the animated classics and now point in them existing since people could just watch those at home.

With the exception of Doctor Strange 2 and Guardians 3. Any post-Endgame MCU movies given the repetitive formulaic feel.

Anything by Quentin Tarantino and any MCU flick.
Drink 32oz of water a day, exercise daily for at least 30 minutes, take your meds as prescribed, eat healthy (count calories), reach out to your support network when you need them, practice basic hygiene, learn from your mistakes, forgive yourself for your failures, admit when you're wrong, be humble when you're right, be nice to animals, and try again.

Also

Disney/Pixar animated films as trope-wise they're pretty much just the same.

Chronicle as well because that abusive ***hat of an father didn't die which he deserved originality planned and said main character saved him which he shouldn't have. Seeing him get his limbs torn off and screaming in agony and probably begging for his life for the true coward he'd be would had been music to my ears.

Basically any sequels or reboots released 30+ years after the original film/trilogy because those movies are pointless, cash-grabbing trash 99% of the time. I didn't see either of the last two Terminator movies for this reason. I made the mistake of going to Independence Day: Resurgence against my better judgment and it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Never gonna make that mistake again.

Seeing that I'm really into cult cinema, there isn't much that I wouldn't watch. Their are a few films that I won't watch.
  • Cannibal Holocaust
    Cannibal Ferox
    Night of 1000 Cats
    Anything with Traci Lords
    Anything done by Roman Polanski

Also Alpha (2018) given what happened behind production with those bison.

Damn shame because I really wanted to watch that movie. >_<

There's John Wick too. Although not real I can't stand to see doggies die on-screen in movies which happens in the beginning of the first movie which stops me from watching the movies.

Movies notably about dogs even if they turn out fine in the end. Max (2015) and A Dog's Way Home notably. I feel I probably can't even go in five minutes without crying.

Ditto to this.

Looking at you live-action Disney remakes...

Agreed. Toy Story 3 ended the series perfectly.

I'm honestly convinced given the ending that entire movie was fan service and an apology to WoodyxBo Peep shippers who were upset about what happened to her in the third movie.

It's not that I refuse to see them for any particular reason but I have zero interest in almost anything made after ~2000, at least anything made by Hollywood with the intent of generating a billion dollars in ticket revenue.

Eh...I think the italicized part is more important.

I'm not sure if this is a subjective rose-tinted opinion, but it feels like there was a time where big blockbusters, like Terminator 2, were simultaneously well made films and popular, and had more originality.

Funnily enough, one film I absolutely refuse to see is Forest Gump. I'm sure it's an alright film, but I have a vivid memories of people telling me to watch it in highschool. "What, you've never seen Forest Gump?!?". At that time, it wasn't intentional, but the more time that passes, the more I'm inclined to not watch it. I was happy watching my Jorrowdowsky films then, no need for Forest Gump. Same thing goes for Titanic.

Added in 3 minutes 40 seconds:

Agreed about Roman Polanski.

Fun fact about Cannibal Holocaust:
In college I took a horror film class. Cannibal Holocaust was one of the films shown (and it was one of the few films that got a large warning, and a pass if you didn't want to come to the class the day it was shown). I did a massive project and lecture on it. Not defending any of the actual animal violence at all, but a big thing most people don't know is that the entire film is possibly the most egregious lecture and attack at the AUDIENCE, for watching the film. Not saying it's high art at all, but a big element people miss from it is that it's intended to make you feel like absolute garbage for watching it.

Cannibal Ferox is just trash, and it's what I think a lot of people assume Cannibal Holocaust to be content wise.

I suggest revisiting it in a few years.

I remember being horrified and unable to watch Godzilla vs. Hedorah when I was like 10, and I made the film out to be much scarier than it was. Now it's one of my favorites.

Right, there have been some great movies made in the last twenty years: two classics off the top of my head are Lost in Translation and The Artist. Even blockbusters such as The Dark Knight and Casino Royale are good movies, but I find those to be the exceptions. I also want to note that I'm mostly talking about Hollywood, where the impetus to make movies generally seems to be "make something disposable that can net a few hundred million." Departures (2008, Japan) and The Lives of Others (2006, Germany) are two foreign films I can think of from the same era that are exceptional movies.

The most recent decades are the ones I've explored the least, except perhaps the very early silent era. If I'm going to watch a movie I haven't seen before, odds are it's going to be from Hollywood's golden age.

I think the only two movies that come to mind right now are 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Lego Movie Part 2. The former because it just doesn't seem very interesting to me and the latter because I hated the first one.

Any MCU movie after Endgame. It was the perfect end to the story, we don't need anymore

Oh I thought of one, but it’s more of a television show.

Power Rangers.

I find something really skeezy about butchering Japanese tv shows, and Americanizing the shit out of them in order to appeal to American children. If I want tokkatsu action I’m just gonna watch ultraman and the likes. To be clear, this is a drastically different issue than let’s say dubbing, or localizing something minutely.

I won't watch Power Rangers because it's awful. The Sentai series I've seen are dope though.
