Marvel Cinematic Universe

Post by 20th Century Boy »

I'm not liking Phase 2 as much as Phase 1. They're mostly all in the "pretty good" range, but not quite the "movie magic" range that Phase 1 was. Hopefully AoU changes that. My favorite so far may have to be Thor 2.

My ranking of the films.

Guardians of the Galaxy (I loved this film so much that I saw four times in the theater)
Captain American 2 (I thought it was a really fun movie that was superior to the first one. I saw it three times.)
Thor 2 (It was decent, had some cool moments, but nothing special. I saw it one time.)
Iron Man 3 (One of the worst superhero movies I have ever seen in my life. Disappointing as hell and I don't get why people liked it.)
52 wins and 27 loses

I don't think anyone will pick IM3 (nor do I think that they should).

Prove it. Spacegodzilla's feats are MILES above Spacegodzilla's, and don't even try the "outlier" route.

I haven't seen Guardians yet, though I plan to correct that as soon as possible. Cap 2 I rented a few days ago, and I liked it quite a bit. I'm very interested in seeing where the MCU will go from there. IM3 was lame and forgettable. Thor 2 was lamer and forgettabler, though that may have largely been because I've never had much interest in Marvel's Norse mythology stuff; the first Thor didn't do much to stick with me, either. Thor himself and Loki are great, sure, but beyond them...meh. The Bifrost is cool, though.

Captain America 2 and Guardians are the best films Marvel has unleashed upon the world yet.

Overall, I'd have to say it's a virtual tie for TWS and Guardians. Captain America was smarter and more personal, but Guardians had epic visuals, fantastic humor, and was excellent fun. Maybe I in fact prefer Guardians, but somehow I feel TWS is its equal for the sake of this thread.

A pretty good lead up to Age of Ultron. Phase One was also a solid lead up to The Avengers, so it's a win so far.

I need to rewatch a bunch of the phase 2 films or at least past iron bland 3 but for the most part I found phase 2 to be a resounding meh.

Didn't care for Bor 2 and I can barely remember anything from it.

Captain A-Meh-Rica 2 while many praised it, I didn't and thought it was mediocre at best.

Guardians of the galaxy however surprised me as I was sure I was not going to like the movie but I did.... It's good but Lordy Lordy is it overhyped much like all of phase 2.

Iron Bland 3... Well just by that title alone, you can guess my thoughts on it and it's the weakest film of the entire marvel movieverse.

Now all that said and done, I am looking forward to Age of Ultron at least and hopefully that will redeem the entire phase 2 line plus answer some questions we've had since iron man 3.

But like I said, I need to rewatch some of these and see if maybe my views will change on them as I am willing to give them a second chance.

There's been no truly bad films yet in the series, but Thor 2 was lackluster.

Ratings:
Iron Man 3 (6/10)
Thor 2 (6.5/10)
Captain America 2 (8/10)
Guardians of the Galaxy (9/10)

I think that Phase 2 has been absolutely terrific so far. My favourite has to be 'Guardians of the Galaxy' so far.

My favorite movies of Phase 2 so far are Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, but I predict that Avengers: AOU will be my favorite once I watch it. I can't wait to see it!

Yeah, it's quite what I expected. And yes the voice is just beyond perfect. And that Hulkbuster...oh my god such glorious cgi.

It looks like it has a slightly darker tone than Captain America 2 from the trailer. I would love for it to be better than The Winter Soldier, because I thought that was great.

Apparently Marvel is having a special press event on Tuesday and some big announcements are expected.
