Too bad its rights are being held up by Cunningham being a jackass (I stand corrected).

New rumors are being circulated that a 12-film box set is finally happening (again). Many are speculating that Scream Factory will announce it at SDCC.

Oh dang! This is exactly the kind of thing that might lure me back to the franchise in a big bad way!

I always remember feeling much more positively about the 2009 reboot than most people. Sure, it was nothing special, but it managed to deliver on the classic tropes of the franchise in spades, while also taking just a few interesting turns(playing around with decoy protagonist/final girl tropes a little bit)

Another 12-movie boxed set? It better include the Unrated cuts of FT13TH 2 and 7 this time, then, especially if we won't be getting another movie anytime soon with Cunningham appealing and holding the rights up in litigation, even moreso with Covid pushing the latest court date back (thanks a lot, prick).

I know the first F13 has been available in uncut form for years. We know that Jason Goes to Hell is going to have its unrated cut finally included on Blu Ray here. No way they WON'T have the "killer cut" of the F13 2009. So that is 3 out of the 12 that will automatically have an unrated cut.

Because of their recency, I would assume it would be quite easy to put together bloodier versions of Freddy vs Jason and Jason X....no reason at all any footage cut from those films should have been 'lost' or unworkable. Just a matter of going through the effort to MAKE those longer versions. Although if they tinker with FvJ I would love some sort of "Jason wins" alternate option, just for the giggles.

Everything else seems a bit up in the air. I remember a DVD set I had a while back had separately viewable unrated footage for the 1st, the 6th, and the 7th film(although the 7th had footage that was of a much lower quality while 6 seemed to look pretty good)....I have to assume that they could use some tricks and restorative work on that footage, some enhancements and etc....to get that footage up to a more presentable level.

Is the material still in existence and able to be restored for ANY of the other early films? Always kind of heard it was "lost or destroyed"

Interesting that you mention Part 2 specifically. I hear it had not just the usual bloodier deaths but a prolonged sex scene removed....but always assumed that footage was in a lost/destroyed state.

Maybe they've found an archive or gold-mine of footage somewhere?

New bonus features, commentaries and better quality scans/transfers is certainly nice....but depending on the price, if they could include a new batch of unrated/alternate versions on top of what we've had before...THAT would really push this over the edge.

There's nothing to add to Freddy vs. Jason beyond the original test audience ending (which had Will become Freddy, implying a Freddy win) but that's always been available as an extra and will likely be included. Jason X on the other hand, sounds like it has some more gore sequences but I don't know the state of those.

Everything I've heard claims that the unrated footage for the later films exists, most likely in workprint quality. I think a restoration can definitely be done for them.

But Jason DID technically "win" in the theatrical cut of FvJ even though it was by the humans' hands.

But yeah, they better include something new if they're gonna release another 12-collection FT13 bundle. And I'm pretty sure the "Killer Cut" (unrated cut) of Friday the 13th 2009 was in the original bundle.

I mean, a 12-collection bundle is enough for most people considering the only other collection of that nature is notoriously OOP and sells regularly for hundreds of dollars. The current Blu-ray set is only the first eight films.

But considering new commentaries are being recorded, it's almost guaranteed that we'll have a plethora of new content.

Yeah....I just always though it would be cool for these 'vs' films to have optional endings for either 'side'. I was surprised that Freddy vs Jason and Alien vs Predator both got made and never pursued this idea.

Not saying they ever could or would do it NOW....but during production, they could have filmed material and created 3 edits for a Freddy, Jason, Draw outcome without having them be dramatically different from one another.

For this Jason set....you can easily have both of them blown up into the water, and then have the kids leave directly, no 'final confrontation' on the dock, just leave it as more of a mystery....and THEN you just see Jason emerging with Freddy's head, and then cut the wink and laughter. Boom, a few snippets and you get an ending that feels very overtly leaning in the Jason department.

This is just me rambling though.

I am very much looking forward to the official announcement for this set. I haven't owned ANY of these movies for YEARS...since the DVD days, skipped/missed on the Blu Ray set from a few years back...and just like with the Gamera Set....if this shapes up into something impressive and spectacular and has that comprehensive and definitive feel to it, I would very much consider picking it up.

Holy crap. If it is 16 discs for 12 films....then we either have one-film-per-disc and then FOUR friggin discs of bonus material.....or we really just might be getting a scenario of entire never-before-seen alternate versions of films being included on their own discs.

Even if you throw that out and assume 1 film per disc, no 'new' alternate/extended cuts....I can't imagine what would go on 4 full discs of bonus materials. This would have to include all previous bonus material ever done for the series, and then a pretty good offering of new content as well.

I didn't grow up on these films like most fans. I was scared of horror films as a kid and wouldn't watch them, only watched some newer stuff as a teen, got into classic horror in my 20s (love the classic Universal and Hammer stuff), which eventually got me more into the genre, and only now in my 30s have I gotten into the slasher films. But I have definitely become a fan.

I can't afford or justify laying down that much on a box set, but hopefully they will release some of these new transfers and bonus materials as part of individual releases.
I unapologetically, wholeheartedly, and without a doubt hate Godzilla vs Kong.

I'm not entirely confident in them releasing individual titles, but if the Halloween set is anything to go by, there'll likely be a downsized, cheaper option in the future.

The only thing that makes me think they might is that they are giving all of the films individual cases here in the set. The set isn't some custom digibook that houses 'pages' for each film and is thus always produced as one big piece.

They are putting together the individual cases and then putting them into this larger set packaging. From a production standpoint, it would then be relatively simple to then scale down to just putting those individual films out for release....since they are already mass-producing them in their own cases for this set.

This also makes it easier to do a more scaled-down, less-physical-swag package for the set, where it is pretty much just the discs and cases.

When Sony did their Sony Classics Volume 1 4K Collection, people noted how there aren't any individual releases for the films in the set, but within the set, every film comes with its own individual 4K case and slipcover...so all of the films can be displayed in any way, outside of the big box holding them all.

A lot of people think that is to better facilitate individual releases of each film in the future.

It isn't a guarantee that this is how it will play out, but it makes it easier...and it seems to be a trend I'm noticing more more. Less "unique Set packaging for this specific release to hold all of the discs" and more "regular cases housed in a box to contain them all"

They did that with the Halloween set too. It doesn't really mean anything, it's just how Shout does things with these type of sets.

Added in 15 minutes 1 second:
Someone on the blu-ray.com forums emailed Shout about a smaller set/individual releases and they said there are no plans as of right now, so that's the answer to both those inquiries.

Makes sense to me honestly, considering the copyright hell this series has attached to it.

That makes sense.

I DO appreciate this trend in 'individual cases per film' though. It just creates a nicer ease of access to be able to get at or display each film on its own instead of having to do some "outer sleeve with a digibook that has to be flipped through or folded out to get at the discs"

That is the only minor drawback of the Gamera set and the Godzilla Criterion set. I prefer keeping the discs themselves in standard cases.
