Wow, that is Sad... :( . I don't expect wikipedia pages to be perfect, but I glanced at Nihei's and it listed the date of his death, but his appearance in Superior Ultraman 8 Brothers (2008) is missing. Was this his last appearance in film/tv? I watched that film again just recently...so fun.
To all you dub preservationists, my friends, you have my eternal thanks 8-) . Never stop what you do, you are amazing!

He was the heart of Ultraman '66. Started out as comic relief, then became the most nuanced and interesting character in the show. The things his character did paved the way for character traits that would define whole teams in subsequent shows, and he was just one guy!

He's the best member of the SSSP and one of the best characters in the franchise, and that's 99% Nihei's work, going above a beyond the assignment!

We also lost Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts at 80 years old.

ETA: Oh, and Night of the Living Dead's Marylin Eastman, at 87.

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Nihei as Ide was definitely the heart of the show, and I wouldn't only say that because he had notable character development. He captured the energy of the original Ultraman show, brightened the screen with his fellow castmates, and without a doubt was the definition of humanity having to stand our ground to preserve the future. Even if it meant we had to help Ultraman, which is something Hayata would say. Perhaps keeping a smile and enduring the hardships of danger was what Tsuburaya himself sought to capture.

May he rest in peace.

According to August Ragone on FB, Sampote Sands has passed away. While Sampote and his company Chaiyo were pretty bad to Tsuburaya, and there's definitely a lot to criticize them over, it's sad nonetheless. He still made The Ultra 6 Brothers vs the Monster Army, and a plethora of other Tokatsu and giant monster movies.

Perhaps he was the August Derleth to Tsuburaya's H.P. Lovecraft.

Sampote was.. a troublemaker, putting it lightly, but i at least gotta give him credit for making Hanuman, who might be the ultimate "so bad it's good" kaiju to ever grace a screen lol

Hope he rest in peace nonetheless.

Aw man.... I'm actually kinda bummed. He might have been involved in one of the greatest IP thefts of all time, but he was.... rascally. I respect that. He had a unique swag as a filmmaker. He wasn't particularly good but still. I seem to remember the Thai people had a lot of love for him.
Rest in peace, Sompote. Don't be mad if there's a line of Tsuburayas ready to smack you upside the head in the afterlife!

Ed Asner, best remembered as Lou Grant on Mary Tyler Moore.

Nearly twenty years ago, he called me a dirty bastard. Here's the video:

To me, he vocally defined Jameson the same way Mark Hamill has The Joker.

Rest in peace, Ed Asner.

Godzilla screenwriter Wataru Mimura passed away last week at age 67. As an amateur screenwriter who is a big Godzilla fan and grew up watching the movies he wrote, I've always respected this man so much and it's sad to see him go. Rest in peace, Wataru.

Michael K. Williams, best known for acting in "The Wire", has passed away today. Supposedly from a heroine overdose, but authorities are still looking into it.

I haven't seen The Wire myself, but Williams always seemed like such a lovable guy. R.I.P man.
