The government didn't ban comic books, rock and roll, or role playing games. They're not going to ban violent video games, either.

I've been there! The classic American moral panic is something we do have to be cautious of, because sometimes it has very real results - witch trials, lynchings, communist hunts - but when it's focused on entertainment, as it mostly has been in recent decades, it doesn't tend to have much direct impact. The scarier thing, to me, is the people who exploit these kinds of issues to get elected into positions of power.

What they should ban is fucking Fortnite. If there's a game that's gonna make me commit an act of violence it's that one, but not because of headshots and guns and all that but because I'm over the Fortnite dancing. If I see someone doing the fucking Floss dance one more fucking time........ Im.Gonna.Loose.My.Shyt.

Funny thing is I used to be a pro Fortnite gamer. And you could take me down to Moisty Mire but never to Loot Lake and we could have chug jug together.

The government with fully priced video games containing insidious monetization specifically designed to nickle and dime children and adults with compulsive spending habits out of their money and swindle them: *I sleep*

Thr government with video games containing violence and boobs: *REAL FUCKING SHIT*

Edit: You know what? That is what gets on my nerves, when people are trashing something or "criticizing" something for the objectively wrong reasons. No, modern video games are not bad because violence, they are bad bevause the technologu now exists to enable greedy publishers to turn them into gigantic money sink holes and take even more of your money for less effort. No, the Star Wars sequels, Ghostbusters reboot, the DCCU and the MV movies past G14 are not bad because "wamen" or "muh politics and SJW'S", they are troubled by actual legitimate issues like studio interference, writers and directors creating a hot mess of a movie due to spreading too many characters too thin, and troublesome writing themes that create a very toxic picture of those who worked on these movies.

As does this. I haven't experienced it much in the Monsterverse side of things (thank god), but it's all but ruined the Star Wars fandom for me. You know a fandom is bad when you're embarrassed to admit you're a fan of the property in real life.

Nah, DLC CAN be good, and depending on the type and the price, it's not a real problem. Like, free title updates for games like Monster Hunter, or DLC expansion packs that offer a lot of content for a reasonable price ~~and clearly wasn't already finished and just gated off because kek~~, that's all fine and dandy.

It's when the DLC in question is stuff that is clearly supposed to be in the based game, but got shunted off and locked behind a paywall that problems begin to arise. Or smaller "microtransactions" that litter a game but can easily rack upwards of hundreds of dollars worth of knick knacks and extra stuff, tangible "pay to win" or "just cosmetic" aside, is where the real problems start to emerge.

As a father I'm now starting to notice things in games, TV, movies, and most of all YouTube that I find a bit "adult" that I need to keep away from my kids for now.

I'm very anti-banning video games and such but at the same time I'm becoming more aware of how they can affect the young ones. (One video my 5 year old daughter watched on YouTube was a girl role playing in Roblox and having an abortion. Uhhh...). I just need to be more aware of the things my kids can watch and have access to.

When I was a kid, I didn't really get online until I was 10. Granted, as a late 90s/early 2000s kid, that was partially due to the technology of the time; but I just cannot imagine five-year old me on YouTube. I have to wonder what kind of trouble I'd have gotten into.

I think, more than anything else right now, it's social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc., that are potentially the biggest threat to young kids.

It is. The other day somehow she got to a Tik Tok video of this black girl with the biggest ass I've ever seen doing a booty clap on a guy's face. How the hell did she get from Peppa Pig to that? So now we sit with her during her phone time to monitor it. Video games do still present somewhat of a challenge but not in terms of violence but what other people say to each other on there. She likes Roblox and they do a good job of censoring bad language and such but sometimes bad stuff slips through. We just limit now what she can do each day.

I don't know much about Roblox but good to know there's some monitoring going on.

YouTube, on the other hand, reminds me of the old "wild west" days of the internet where you could find anything good or bad with relative ease. The difference now is that most of that is on one app on your phone. Granted, I don't think you can just stumble upon real porn or death/mutilation on YouTube, but you know what I mean. I think the recent protocols designed to protect children are probably mostly ineffective and only hamper content creators who weren't doing anything wrong to begin with.

It sucks because I like having a YouTube channel where I only have to worry about maybe getting a video with copyrighted content blocked by Toho, but some people really abuse that system to do heinous things. There's a lot of exploitation on YouTube and Google apparently has little interest in doing anything effective to fix it.

There's this really freaking annoying advertisement on TV Tropes about taking a trip to Texas or something like that. Trying to read and suddenly this "pamphlet" opens up, takes up a huge chunk of the screen in the process!

Really this gets on my nerves in general. TV Tropes is a nice site to visit and contribute to, but there ads are pretty.. heavy handed to say the least.

If GTA III and its subsequent sequels never got banned after all its controversies, then it's never gonna happen, so no worries, though some people have shown they really shouldn't be playing them. As you may recall, BO2's design director, David Vonderhaar, received death threats for slightly nerfing the rate of fire on the DSR 50. There was actually a montage video of quickscoping kiddos crying, punching the walls and screeching at Vahn that was since privated. They looked not a day older than 12 and clearly outed themselves as not mature enough to be playing M-rated games, yet here they were crying and threatening Vahn and his family's life over a gun having its rate of fire nerfed by fractions of a second in a fucking M-rated game. I chalk that up to bad parenting.

And the DSR was still OP, anyway:

I don't know why when some people talk about the MV sucking they have to bring up Shin Godzilla everytime.

Also parents that don't raise their kids and then blame others when the kid grows up and is out of control.

Adults that spend all there time on the phone, like teenagers talking loud and obnoxiously while in the company of others.

No it is not business related, no it is not there wife or husband. They get on the phone with 1 person for like 2 hours, then get on the phone with another for 3 or 4 hours and so on. An this is not once a week or once a month it's every god damn day. What the hell can you possibly talk about for that long. I have to put in headphones just to tune them out because they have such a loud voice.

Pisses me the hell off.
