FWIW, I think a lot of people are confusing "new mold" with "new sculpt". I don't recall anyone saying G21 was an entirely new sculpt, only that a new mold was created.Mac Daddy MM wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 2:30 pm Yeah. The sculpts are similar, but look at the details. The ridges and bumps don't line up on them. G'21 *IS* a new mold.
Edit: Everything beneath the knees looks identical though. That might be shared.

^i was just thinking that exact thing but wasn’t sure how to put it into words! I think perhaps that’s the confusion here.

100% this. As I mentioned earlier, the differences should be minor compared to the 2019 ver. since not much was changed between CGI models.G1985 wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 2:44 pmFWIW, I think a lot of people are confusing "new mold" with "new sculpt". Is it just me, or are the arms beefier on G21? Cuz from a few comparison shots it certainly looks that way

I'd say the right (from our view) middle toe looks different. G19's is more curved and angles off, while G21's is flatter and straighter. Hard to tell for the other foot bc of blockage, but the inner toe looks different to my eye as well. But yeah agreed, look closely and the differences start to appear.Mac Daddy MM wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 2:30 pm Yeah. The sculpts are similar, but look at the details. Well said. Yeah the main takeaway is when you compare the two, the molds both look evenly "fresh", no degradation.

So in other words, Tamashii wasted who knows how much money on a brand new mold when the one used for the 2019 figure would've sufficed.

Unfortunately, I don't know the circumstances. It could be simple as wanting to use the latest model from the lastest movie or maybe the 2019 ver had suffered some damage/didn't meet their standards. Either way, I'm not mad over it. I don't see why anyone should be.UltramanGoji wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 5:48 pm So in other words, Tamashii wasted who knows how much money on a brand new mold when the one used for the 2019 figure would've sufficed.

It's probably a bigger profit to remold a G21 than to straight reissue a G19 I'm a new box. Who here has G19 that is buying it just because it's slightly different.

Seems strange that they would invest in a new mold for it to come out looking like a degraded version of the previous one, but maybe that's just me. Something's just off about that head though, looks damaged or shriveled.

Just imagine the outcry of "I can see mold degradation!!" if Tamashii *had* stuck with the 2019 molds.UltramanGoji wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 5:48 pm

Perhaps it's my imagination but you sound upset that they spent their massive profits on making something new when they could have pulled a Hasbro. I for one am glad they did make a new mold. Take one look at BG 2019's rickety looking arms and tell me otherwiseUltramanGoji wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 5:48 pm

You are imagining things. I could not care any less than I do if they waste money, it's baffling, not annoying.
Utilizing what's available to you isn't a "Hasbro", it's something every toy manufacturer does. Wasting money to make an identical new mold of one that's less than two years old is a mind-boggling prospect, especially when said company is infamous for repaint releases.Xenagoji7802 wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 6:29 pm Perhaps it's my imagination but you sound upset that they spent their massive profits on making something new when they could have pulled a Hasbro.
My G19 is perfectly fine, looks and stability. No reason they couldn't have just repainted that.Xenagoji7802 wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 6:29 pm I for one am glad they did make a new mold. Take one look at BG 2019's rickety looking arms and tell me otherwise

Definitely not just you. Also, I'm surprised no one has pointed this out, but in that gallery posted on the previous page, one of his eyes is sunken into his head or something. I don't know what happened with this one.
I will say that I like the chest paint and think its an improvement over G'19, but that's all I can give it. Wasn't too impressed by the promo pics to begin with, but all this just cements my decision to pass on it. Almost wish I had tried to get the previous atomic G'19, but I think that was bundled with the Japanese Blu-ray or something. NECA's will suffice for a "spitfire" variant.
Kong, however, is still a must-have, even at the risk of some eye issues.

I saw a SHMA Burning Godzilla 2019 that had arms that looked like a wooden string puppet. Sculpt of the parts all uneven and crappy looking. I really don't think that mold would have made another sculpt worth buying for a brand new movie.

Pulled the plug on my preorder after seeing all this stuff. The numerous QC issues and odd paint decisions has completely turned off on buying this. Really hope they make a better MV Goji SHMA when the next MV Godzilla film rolls around, cuz this ain’t it

Re: Rebuild of S.H. MonsterArts 1.1 [ABRIDGED]
Actually, I've been corrected. This isn't a 2019 repaint, this is a repaint of Burning Godzilla (2019), with the head on that figure being smaller than the standard 2019 release, which features a more rounded less "pointed" head.
So it's a rerelease of an already degraded mold. Keeping my PO on it though, because I can easily use a headswap to make it look like a good old atomic MV Goji.

The cycle keeps on. We're in the QC problems cycle for new figures.
Wait till we get the video reviews in it'll be a hoot and a half.

You got it man I've already seen a G21 mouth that looks decent and one that looks like a 3 year old was told to paint it. It's gonna be a ride.
