Doesn't look unfinished, just doesn't look as airbrushed as the stock photo.

What should finish it - a giant splash of gold spray paint across the figure's chest?Gojira95 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 2:26 am User NateDHer on the Godzilla reddit posted their Megalon.

Added in 47 minutes 11 seconds:
I think they could've done better with the patterns on his chest. That part looks unfinished, sorry should've been clearer.

Just got the Megalon and yeah, it really does look like they just copied the original figure from 1991. It doesn't have the surface texture the original had, but everything else is virtually the same. The paint is also really simplistic. The attention to sculpt and paint are along the lines of what I'd expect from a 500/Spark Doll Ultraman figure, NOT a 6" Bandai Godzilla toy.

I'll be interested to see what the rumoured playmates Megalon looks like in comparison.Legion1979 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 2:36 pm Just got the Megalon and yeah, it really does look like they just copied the original figure from 1991. A reissue of Destoroyah?? Why that figure? The one from a few years ago?
Wasn't that an unpopular figure?

I literally just pulled my Megalon from the box. Pretty nice figure, I feel like the arms are a little awkward, but I do recall the suit being like that. Good details that a better paint job would've highlighted better. I dig it though. Just glad to have a Megalon in my collection.

I wish I would hurry up and get my Megalon and Hedorah. Although I see my 1992 Biollante arrived today so there is that.

Now I think it is safe to say 1999 Gamera, Iris, and 1991 Gojira are 100% confirmed.
Can't wait to get that Iris. I've always been looking for a 6inch Iris toy that I can afford to buy.

It wasn't 100% confirmed when Showcase Daikaiju (run by a dealer who has been handling kaiju merchandise for decades) listed the exact same thing?vastatosaurus wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 5:53 pm https://awesomecollector.com/search?typ ... ter+series

Sorry. but I wasn't familiar with that website so I have been skeptical until today. Didn't know they had some track records. Hopefully we get a 91 King Ghidorah too to go with the Godzilla. They always seem to come in 2s.

There already is a 6" 1991 King Ghidorah figure. It's been released countless times since 1998.OGMechaMothra wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 8:40 pm Hopefully we get a 91 King Ghidorah too to go with the Godzilla. They always seem to come in 2s.

While different, there's also the MKG, that similarly has had countless releases and a few years ago got a new figure. I'd rather them release older monsters (Varan, Ebirah) than more King Ghidorahs.Legion1979 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 4:04 amThere already is a 6" 1991 King Ghidorah figure. Since Mecha King Ghidorah has had a recent reissue I don’t doubt they’ll reissue the “regular” Ghidorah eventually. It has been out of circulation for almost a decade, if not longer.
The new Megalon looks to have been sculpted using the 8 inch as a reference so I predict that Godzilla 91 will follow suit. Although I’d love it if they modeled it more after the large scale version.

Re: Official Bandai (Japan) Thread 2.0
I apologize for being late on this, but here's a comparison of the 93 Megalon versus the most recent MMS release:
The major differences are that the 21 head is smaller in comparison to the body than the 93 one, and honestly that makes it look better. Additionally, the antenna are more pronounced and colored, which is more accurate to the film version. You can see that while the chest isn't colored, there's a slight amount of detail on the belly and the shoulders.
Compare the above image to the original:
Additionally, the back has "veins" to reflect the more fleshy part of Megalon's backside, versus the original figure which had a hard shell making it be more, well shell-like:
To me, I think the most recent MMS is much more accurate than the original 93 Megalon figure. For those looking for a cheap new Megalon to add to their collection, it's worth it. However, honestly, despite it being more move accurate, it just isn't as appealing as something to display as the original figure. While I said the "veiny" wings are more accurate, the original gold and black is just way more beautiful. In conclusion, I think both are fine figures, but I get the people looking for a little more detail in the most recent MMS one.

What this new Megalon really needed was some sort of paint wash to bring out the details and give it a little more color. Up against figures like Titano and MG2 from two decades ago this figure looks a little bland.

For anyone wanting to see how the new Megalon and JJ look together (with a random CCP Ghidorah that also arrived...). Megalon is a decent figure. For a kid's toy, its fine. Could be worse, could be better. Going to be doing more comparisons to it against the YMSF Megalon I also own. See which one truly deserves the spot on the lineup.
