I love drooling over the detail of those awesome 3 - 5 inch figures of godzilla and his friends.. Won't you fill my empty soul with your pictures of your favorite gashapon figures?!!

I love gashapons and have a good many of them (and yet I don't have a single Japanese Bandai Vinyl..)
Image
I kinda like the Gamera ones a bit more than the Godzilla ones for some reason
Image
but this is probably my favorite wave, even if most of them are re-releases

I love these little figures. They have such great detail & poses. I was lucky enough to pick these up brand new in thier "capsul" as a set for under $50 :g2k:

I'll post picks in a couple of weeks when I get back home, but I have around 120 of them. The HG series are the only Godzilla/Gamera figures I collect, love the detail and variety. Favorite one is a tough choice, but Burning Fist Gamera probably takes the bill.

@Starscream: Do I see all three World Hobby Fest Gamera figures in there or is that the HG 2 Space Gyaos? I finally managed to track down a Space Gyaos claimed to be the WHF version, but when comparing it to 2 HG 2 versions, I'm not so sure.

I have A LOT of gashapons, but they're all in storage. I only have a couple with me at college, the adult Destoroyah from the Tokyo SOS set, and the Flying Mecha-King Ghidorah from the Godzilla x MechaGodzilla set.

I'm having trouble finding what you're talking about, I bought a lot of my HG figures in lots, so a few of them I'm not sure about. The only Space Gyaos I have is the HG 2 one though, since I got that entire wave together. I couldn't find anything about WHF Gamera figures on the internet.

Yeah, there used to be a page on them on ClubTokyo, but it got taken down some years ago. I've been trying to find more info on them but also have had no luck besides the fact they were a set of 3 released between 2000-2002. Here's the only pic of them that I've ever seen:
Image

In your first picture, I noticed the WHF Gamera 1995 on the far left bottom and the WHF Gyaos 1995 (painted as Hyper Gyaos) on the far right bottom. The Space Gyaos you have may be the HG 2 one or the WHF exclusive one, they are extremely hard to tell apart. The one thing that makes me lean to the WHF version is that the toes and finger claws are white instead of the light yellow on the HG 2 version.

Also, if anyone is interest in HG gashapons, I have a good number of sets available, check my sig.

^I just went to check my Gashapon shelf and noticed that I do have two Space Gyoas... and one of them has yellow toenails and the other has white toenails. I never noticed it before and am pretty glad I didn't give it away thinking I had two of the same figure.

To be honest, I didn't even know they were exclusives, I always thought they were customs that the guy who sold me the lot made. I wish I could find a little more information on them.

Glad I could help with what little info I have about them. Also, what you said confirms that I have 2 of the HG 2 Space Gyaos instead of a WHF version *cry*. Took a gamble on one on ebay that claimed to be WHF and lost, but at least I only wasted $13. And with that, my Gamera HG collection becomes incomplete lol.

I love gashapons, and I collected them long before I started purchasing vinyl figures; they look great, they are easy to store, and you can use them in all sorts of miniature games.

It's a pity Bandai stopped producing these figures, but the selection of Ultraman, Gamera and Godzilla characters we received more than makes up for that fact.

I'm hoping Bandai will release a new set with the future Godzilla movie since pretty much every set has been released to coincide with a movie except the Tsubaraya Commemorative set and the reissue sets.

I'm about to blow this thread up!

@DARKCANCER I can't wait to see your compiled gashapon collection, you sound like you know more about them than I do, so maybe you can help me out on a few question I have about my own collection.!!

First things first, I need to go take some pics @ my casa ;) not smoke any pot ;) then I'll be back at my sister in law's to post my pics!

@ZILLMASTER Get those babies outta storage and make some trades! I'm always interested and looking.

@STARSTEAM I'm pretty sure I have a few that you have but maybe some you don't! Either way your gamera are badass! >.<

@PLEXTON POST SOME PICS FOOL@@!!!! ;p

Sure, PM me with any questions, I'll be glad to help.

I'm thinking of making a guide in Word using pictures and descriptions as a reference for people who aren't sure if they are buying originals or reissues. It can get confusing if you don't know what to look for or if all you have to go on is pictures without side-by-side comparisons. Some of the figures have been reissued 3 times and some sculpts have been used even more (the Gyaos sculpt from the HG Gamera series has been used 6 times!).

Just a quick guide the the High Grade 2 Space Gyaos (Right) and the World Hobby Festival Space Gyaos (Left), request by darkcancer.

Image
They do seem pretty hard to tell apart at first glance, but as you can see, the paint on the WHF Gyaos is much glossier. The eyes, teeth, and claws on both the hands and feet are white while on the HG2 Gyaos, they are yellow. The red stripes are also much thicker and brighter on the WHF version.

Image
Beyond the paint differences, the back of both also have some differences. The small cutoff circle on WHF Gyaos is much larger than the one on the HG2 version. The biggest, and most interesting difference to me, are the small little bumps you can find on many High Grade figures. HG2 Gyaos has four bumps, while WHF has 5. Usually, reissues contain one less bump than the original. The big kicker here though, is that the original HG1 Gyoas has 5 bumps, meaning the WHF Space Gyaos is actually a repaint of the HG1 Gyaos.

Image
One final look between the two, showing the paint differences a little more clearly. They're not something you can pick out easily unless it's a large close photo, but they're there. I hope this brief comparison will be useful to any collectors out there who have been wanting to know more about this particular release.

Thank you very much for that. I did suspect it was a repainted HG 1 Gyaos since the other 2 WHF HG's are repaints of HG 1's as well. Much appreciated.

@darkcancer Have you seen the first link I posted of the 1984 godzilla in box? I can't seem to find any info on that specific gashapon. Also lemme know if you see any other unique things in my collection.. I don't know anything about any of them, due to me having just started learning and buying this year. All info will be noted and appreciated.. All I really know is that I payed 5$ or less for each one.

@starsteam Can you post more close ups of your gamera gashapons?! I love your stuff man!
