Godzilla (1954) - Godzilla's Rampage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xPKolXdyiM
While it structurally pales in comparison to future renditions of the theme, the shear destructive power of it really sets up a dark and terrible atmosphere for the accompanying visuals.

The King Caesar song from Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla.

Ifukube's early work was usually confined to smaller orchestras, so it's quite possible.Gojira-Fan wrote: I never noticed, but is that just a trombone, piano and gong?

The Artistry of Akira Ifukube 4 — CYU, T30: RONDO IN BURLESQUE FOR JAPANESE DRUM AND ORCHESTRA
I think this is now my number-one favorite piece of music.
Epic.

I quite agree. It's a wonderful rendition of one of the man's most memorable themes, though admittedly I prefer the 1983 recording.

Re: Favorite Godzilla music
Most likely my favorite would have to be GMK. It's a really good mixture of orchestra style and synths. Sticks out thee most to me.
Also love the score for Godzilla 1985, have yet to see the original Japanese version (I know there's a difference of music between the the two) but I don't know how big of a difference so I'm just going with the American 85 version.
And of course, I love the music from the first 5 Godzilla movies or so. Classics IMO.

Re: Favorite Godzilla music
My favorite scores:
Godzilla - The creepiest and most ominous of all giant monster scores, setting the foundation for what's to come.
Rodan - more creepy yet energetic Ifukube pieces.
Varan - Crappy movie, great music.
King Kong vs. Godzilla - this is where Ifukube starts to get downright epic.
Mothra vs. Godzilla - Improves many of the ideas introduced in Godzilla and King Kong vs. Godzilla.
Terror of Mechagodzilla - Ifukube's last great score IMO. The main theme is one of his best.
Godzilla 2000 - Hattori wrote some very cool, dramatic themes for this film. Too bad his action music sucks (this was remedied in the US version with additions by J. Peter Robinson)
Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack - I would have preferred the synth being toned down a bit, but there are some fantastic themes here, even better than his Gamera scores.

Re: Favorite Godzilla music
^I wish they used GMK's title screen music for Godzilla's appearance. They're the same music but I think the extra drum beats on the title would have been awesome for Big G's establishing shot.
Forgot to mention I love the whole FW soundtrack. Really gets the blood pumping!

I'm sticking strictly to Godzilla films...
"Escape from Monsterland" from DAM (Ifukube)
"Godzilla vs. Kumonga I" from Son of Godzilla (Sato)
Main title theme from DAM (Ifukube)
"Great Monster War March" from Monster Zero (Ifukube)
"Plan B - Electrocution" from Mothra vs Godzilla (Ifukube)

Re: Favorite Godzilla music
It's pretty much all good, but a few standouts in no particular order:
- The Tokyo SOS Main Title. The fanfares at the beginning and end are just plain epic. This is possibly my favorite non-Ifukube G song.
- The dramatic march played when Godzilla comes ashore in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah and Godzilla 2000. Does a great job of selling Godzilla's power and violent intentions.
- The Destruction of Hong Kong. Very ominous. Says quite clearly that Burning Godzilla is Godzilla at his most dangerous.

Ending - Invasion of Astro-Monster
Ending - Destroy All Monsters
Ending - Terror of Mechagodzilla
-Akira Ifukube
I was always a fan of his ending cues, but these three really stand out from the rest. They have a sort of nostalgic, sentimental quality to them.

Am I the only one here who has Godzilla vs Tokyo by Zebrahead, as one of his favorite Godzilla music pieces?

Re: Favorite Godzilla music
Lol not a favorite, but like it by default. It's pretty decent. I like the sound effects and everything they had in it. I think my favorite might be the "Godzilla vs the Tanks Corps" track from MvGGodzilla165 wrote:Am I the only one here who has Godzilla vs Tokyo by Zebrahead, as one of his favorite Godzilla music pieces?
