Question on kaiju names

Postby mikelcho » Fri Jun 14, 2019 6:26 am

I remember seeing a question from Video Movie Guide by Mick Martin and Marsha Porter that I thought that I'd put out here. It came from one of their reviews of a daikaiju film (I think that it might've been one of the Celebrity Home Video Gamera films on VHS, but I'm not too sure about that) and it goes something like this, I think:

"Does Japan have a Ministry of Giant Monsters responsible for naming all of these behemoths?"

Thoughts?

As I remember, the authorities don't seem to go with names until a scientist or some other person suggest a name for them. For example, it's not until late in GMK that the monsters get names. The army was calling Baragon Red Godzilla.

I doubt there's any official means of keeping track of or creating names, but it would make for an interesting fan fic or short film.
Kaiju are just like people- giant, radioactive people.

Megalon went into a bar and saw Gigan. Megalon said, " Again? I thought you gave this up."
" What can I say," Gigan asked. " I'm hooked."
