I think part of it is the angles and lighting. On the one hand you have shots like this that are really good and make him look pretty darn intimidating....
....Aaaand then you have shots like these where he looks much less so

One of those is a shot that was doctored up for publicity, one is a puppet rather than the suit, and one is not from GxMG.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

As long as we're discussing puppets on an Unpopular Opinion thread, though, the 1954 puppet is honestly one of my favorites. I like the jagged teeth.eabaker wrote:One of those is a shot that was doctored up for publicity, one is a puppet rather than the suit, and one is not from GxMG.
The 1954 suit is also my favorite suit, and the definitive Godzilla design in my eyes – though I don't know if that's considered an unpopular opinion or not.

Shodai actually doesn't make my top 5 suits, don't know if that's unpopular, but i know people love to put "original" anything towards #1.

True, but ol' Shodai DID have a fisheye look about him, and I was trying to use the only shots I could find. Sorry if I made it skewed.eabaker wrote:One of those is a shot that was doctored up for publicity, one is a puppet rather than the suit, and one is not from GxMG.

MosuGoji should have been the influence for the later Showa Godzilla suits and it should be the influence for Reiwa Godzilla.

I feel like the meaner look Mosu had wouldn't have fit for the campy, goofball hero Godzilla that Toho was aiming for in the later Showa films though. But yeah i think future Godzilla designs should take inspiration from Mosu.Cryptid_Liker wrote:MosuGoji should have been the influence for the later Showa Godzilla suits and it should be the influence for Reiwa Godzilla.

SōshingekiGoji (1968-1972) was designed with the MosuGoji costume as its main influence.

Yeah, I'd say that all of the Showa suits that followed MosuGoji showed some clear influence from it.Terasawa wrote:SōshingekiGoji (1968-1972) was designed with the MosuGoji costume as its main influence.
And, of course, MosuGoji was very much a return to a aspects of ShodaiGoji's look, after the radical departure of KingGoji.

Re: Unpopular Godzilla Opinions
Speaking of Godzilla suits, I like MireGoji/GiraGoji's purple spines; They just go so well with that handsome green coat he's got in my opinion. Heck, the suit itself is one of my top favorite Godzilla designs. Obviously I'm a bit biased, as Godzilla 2000 was my first introduction to the Japanese Godzilla universe as a whole when I was younger (with TriStar's GODZILLA being my first proper encounter with the beast) but I like how he blends reptilian and mammalian characteristics together, and how he looks lean but powerful, sharp and cut. He looks feral, but not mindless.
I'unno, it just 'works' for me, and it's part of the reason why it's one of my favorite designs overall.

Of course, that's not a bad thing since KingGoji is awesome.eabaker wrote:And, of course, MosuGoji was very much a return to a aspects of ShodaiGoji's look, after the radical departure of KingGoji.
I guess my unpopular opinion is that i wished more Godzilla designs took inspiration from King. I feel the more reptilian head could do wonders on a modern day design.

Reptilian heads do look better than mammalian but I'd say don't go for a KingGoji look. He looks weird from most angles.tyrantgoji wrote:Of course, that's not a bad thing since KingGoji is awesome.eabaker wrote:And, of course, MosuGoji was very much a return to a aspects of ShodaiGoji's look, after the radical departure of KingGoji.

I dore the KingGoji design. I feel like its head shape had an influence on MireGoji.tyrantgoji wrote:Of course, that's not a bad thing since KingGoji is awesome.eabaker wrote:And, of course, MosuGoji was very much a return to a aspects of ShodaiGoji's look, after the radical departure of KingGoji.

Re: Unpopular Godzilla Opinions
Speaking of, i think the reptillian heads look absolutely terrible. G2000 especially, i hear "crocodilian face" often, but he just looks like Pacman, i see no croc features. He has a huge jaw that looks super artificial, odd green skin, just doesn't look right to me.
He also had an absolutely massive head, again like Pacman, and a severe hunch that made him look like his dorsal fins were way too heavy.
Even though i was born in 2000, my introduction to the films growing up was Showa-Heisei-Millenium. So i was already used to the brolic badass charcoal short snout white spine look.
G2000/XMegaguirus G always looked like one of the weakest to me, especially in comparison with the other Millenium G's.
Added in 3 minutes 24 seconds:
Kinggoji always looked like Kermit the Frog, so i could never take him serious, but i saw the film right after Vs. Mothra so I have nostalgia for it. Particularly the dorsal fins and bright green skin are what catch my eye, because they work unlike 2000.

But his skin isn't green. It's grey. The filming just makes it look green._JNavs_ wrote: Kinggoji always looked like Kermit the Frog, so i could never take him serious, but i saw the film right after Vs. I wouldn’t even say that; it’s more like certain transfers with incorrect or poor color might make it look that way.tyrantgoji wrote:But his skin isn't green. It's grey.
