Any time someone lists the anime Mechagodzilla as the best version all I can do is ask one thing...

....why?

I can only assume that, because he doesn't actually appear in the movies, he's achieved some sort of weird "mythic" status in some people's minds like Bagan did.

It's the only thing that makes sense.

Kinda, yeah. At least all your "worst" choices are hard to argue with.

Contrarianism? I try to at least understand why even if I disagree heavily with an opinion

But that one just blows me away.

Added in 7 minutes 48 seconds:
Ok here I go:

Godzilla:
Best: MonsterVerse/mid-late heisei
Worst: singular point

Mothra:
Best: Heisei
Worst: Anime trilogy

King Ghidorah:
Best: monsterverse
Worst: anime trilogy

Rodan:
Best: monsterverse
Worst: singular point

Mechagodzilla:
Best: Kiryu
Worst: anime trilogy

Kong:
Best: monsterverse
Worst: the De Laurentiis films, especially Lives

That’s the big 5 plus Kong might post more takes later. But yeah, the monsterverse has done stellar monster designs in my opinion. Even in the monsters I didn’t put them as the best they were in 2nd place. Something that I believe that anime trilogy and singular point mostly floundered on

Kumonga

Worst: GFW

Anguirus
Best: All of them
Worst: None

I don’t have anything against you but can you explain why singular point is the worst? I thought they did a good job with Godzilla even though the multiple form it is really unnecessary

You don’t have to say that you don’t have anything against me lol, I can take differing opinions.

Ultima has horrific proportions, I hate the super wide mouth because it reminds me more of a muppet than even the Godzilla from son of Godzilla and I can’t stand his eyes. They’re pointed in the opposite direction of one another. Every time I see a post with his face saying “LOOK HOW SCARY/BADASS THIS IS” I look at his stupid mug and think of Cookie Monster.

Even though I disagree, I can see that little bit. I think we can all agree that the multiple forms were somewhat unnecessary. what confuse me the most is why do they design the Godzilla forms based on old Godzilla monsters, like they could’ve made the designs with any color and they have to use the one that is more similar to Titanosaurus, Varan, and Gorusous even though they are not. Why though?

I'll be ignoring the Monsterverse and the anime media

Godzilla:
Best: 1994. I think the overall Heisei look is his best look overall, and I think the 94 design is the epitome of this. It the best mix of muscle and bulk, and I appreciate how big his eyes are in comparison to previous designs.
Worst: Unsurprisingly, 1967 I think is the worst design. Baggy, no real definition, bug eyes. The usual complaints with it.

Mothra:
Best: Tokyo SOS/FW. Perfectly adapts the classic, iconic look with a more realistic look. Like, man, it just looks great!
Worst: 2001. It looks too toy-like. It also looks a lot like a puppet as well. And yes, the 60s and 90s Mothra designs looked like puppets too. But the fluffiness of them added to their charm.

Rodan:
Best: 1956. Menacing and a very clean design. The coloration looks great too, and the deep-set eyes are iconic too.
Worst: Final Wars. As someone else said, this design really shows off the "man-in-the-suit." The whole look of it just doesn't feel real. The face looks fine, and the color is fine, but the overall build just isn't realistic.

Ghidorah:
Best: Very tough, but I am going with the original Showa look. I love the Eastern dragon influences. They make Ghidorah very unique. Also the high pitched cackle is very unique.
Worst: GMK. I understand he's underwhelming and it was on purpose, but I just don't care for it. He's too small, and not particularly grand or kingly looking

Mechagodzilla:
Best: After giving it a lot of thought, I am going with 1975. Honorable mention to 2003 Kiryu. 1975 has that duller, more muted color compared to 1974. It adds to his menacing personality and helps to sell a realistic portrayal.
Worst: Heisei. He's not as interesting as the other designs, and he's not particularly dynamic either.

Godzilla:
Best: Heisei (Biogoji)
Worst: 1998

Mothra:
Best: Tokyo SOS
Worst: GMK

Rodan:
Best: Monsterverse
Worst: Tie between Final Wars and SP

King Ghidorah:
Best: Monsterverse
Worst: GMK or the theme ride version. If we really wanna stretch the Ghidorah category, Keizer is the worst Ghidorah and possibly worst kaiju design of all time.

MechaGodzilla:
Best: Showa (1974)
Worst: MechaGodzilla City (I actually REALLY like the actual design and powers for Anime MG, but MG City shouldn't even have MechaGodzilla in the name)
