Re: Favorite Godzilla/kaiju joke/refference in pop culture.
I thought of another one I've always liked. I couldn't find a video of the scene, but in the Futurama episode "The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings" Fry (using the Robot Devil's hands) has composed an opera. In one scene the Planet Express crew is seen "fighting" Godzilla with Opera!Bender making some lame excuse and running away. In the audience, real Bender says to himself, "I don't ever remember fighting Godzilla, but that is so what I would've done!"
Gives me a chuckle just thinking about it.

That was the classic Fangoria #1 issue.Jon wrote: Friday the 13th, Part III in 3D

Which I always thought was kind of funny, since Fangoria became a big horror/gore magazine and not really a place where you'd expect to see Godzilla coverage.

Although they were still doing Godzilla coverage in the Millennium era.Tokage wrote:Which I always thought was kind of funny, since Fangoria became a big horror/gore magazine and not really a place where you'd expect to see Godzilla coverage.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Yep, I remember them doing it all during the Heisei era too. I can only guess that maybe they were doing it out of tradition, since G was on the first Fangoria cover?eabaker wrote:Although they were still doing Godzilla coverage in the Millennium era.Tokage wrote:Which I always thought was kind of funny, since Fangoria became a big horror/gore magazine and not really a place where you'd expect to see Godzilla coverage.

Oh, of course there's the Pinky and the Brain episode "Tokyo Grows," complete with Raymond Burr randomly edited in saying, "Yes, I see."

I disagree. I found it funny the entire time, in fact all the more so for the repetition.Godzilla 1995 wrote:Even as a kid, I remember that cutaway gag stopped being funny after the second time they pulled it.eabaker wrote:Oh, of course there's the Pinky and the Brain episode "Tokyo Grows," complete with Raymond Burr randomly edited in saying, "Yes, I see."

Yes, I see.
I liked that episode, and part of it was Raymond Burr. His interruptions were amusing, but he was best in that when fighting the Gollyzilla.

And of course there's always Bryan Cranston's first "Godzilla" experience, when Lois trips over Dewey's Lego city in season 2, episode 9 of Malcolm in the Middle. (Unfortunately only found a crappy clip in Spanish on YouTube, but you get the point when you watch it.)

In Halo: Legends Spartan 1337 gets carried off by a Pterodactly that makes a higher pitched version of Rodan's roar.
In the Transformers Prime episode "Operation: Breakdown", Miko, Bulkhead and Agent Fowler watch a movie called "Dinolizard vs 5 Headed Ape". A refrence to King Kong vs Godzilla. The "Dinolizard" even uses GINO's roar and fires a heat ray.

Anyone remember THIS?

I wonder though. How did Toho not sue them? Did the guys that make the movie ask permission to use Godzilla's likeness, or did Toho just not give a crap?

A few favorites for me: the ending of Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo on The Simpsons, the Godzilla roar being used in an episode of Camp Lazlo, and the Robot Chicken skit posted by Mecha-SpaceGhidorah.

Kinda reminds me of how we never got Godzilla vs. Cleveland.

Re: Favorite Godzilla/kaiju joke/refference in pop culture.
Speaking of old Fangoria issues, this is the only one I've ever had. It was a very important stepping stone in my evolution as a G fan though. It included the first film to film list of the franchise until that point (54-Destroyah). It also touched on how some films were released out of order in America, some of the late 60's/early 70's Showa if I remember correctly. Each film got a brief summary and a few tidbits of information of what went on behind the scenes.I believe this magazine is where I finally understood that the post 84 films were a separate series because of that. The dual interview between the primary Godzilla suit actors was a plus as well.

I like how in "Revenge of Shinobi" for the Genesis, one of the bosses is a fire-breathing dinosaur. Then, in the sequel, "Shinobi 3," one of the bosses is Mechagodzilla.
