A powerful form of Godzilla that made its debut in the 1993 Super Nintendo game of the same name. As the American version of Godzilla was set to appear around the mid-1990's, Toho sought to end its run of the "Heisei VS Series" movies with a bang. A proposal was made to have Godzilla team up with Mothra and Rodan to fight the alien monster, Bagan. While in the video game Super Godzilla came to be by combining Godzilla's and King Ghidorah's cells, here, the king of the monsters would instead absorb excessive amounts of radiation and transform into its super state.
However, upon learning that the American Godzilla movie was postponed later into the decade, Toho opted to delay the end of the VS Series for another year, pulling the plug on Super Godzilla and Bagan's showdown. A transformation for Godzilla was rumored to appear the following year in 1995, as a Godzilla vs. Bagan movie was once again considered. But as Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994) featured its titular antagonist using the likeness of Super Godzilla, and the 1995 movie followed the themes of "the death of Godzilla" and the "Oxygen Destroyer," Godzilla's super-powered form was denied its theatrical premiere. |
