Merged Garuda 合体ガルーダ

An alternate take on the G-Force flying vehicle, Merged Garuda was submitted on March 13th, 1993, during the early stages of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993). With Mechagodzilla's "unifying robot" gimmick now off the table, Studio OX submitted several new designs for the mechanical doppelganger based off a sleeker chrome-plated concept more to Koichi Kawakita's liking, as well as this transforming verson of Garuda consisting of two machines. The idea never picked up traction, however, and Garuda would remain a single unit in the finished product.

• Its mention and pieces of concept artwork can be found in the 2012 publication Heisei Godzilla Perfection (ISBN: 4048861190). The combined machine's name is referred to on its concept art as "Merged Garuda A+B" (合体ガルーダA+B - Gattai Garuda A+B), while the separated units are "Garuda A-Type" (ガルーダAタイプ - Garuda A Taipu) and "Garuda B-Type" (ガルーダBタイプ - Garuda B Taipu). To combine, Garuda A-Type would simply have to attach itself to the top of Garuda B-Type.
• As the idea for a "Union Mechagodzilla" was being discarded during this time, this may have been one last attempt to utilize the "unifying robot" gimmick without throwing it out altogether. While the effort would be in vain, the concept would later be reused for Moguera in Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994).
