[Gojira vs. Mekagojira ~ Metarikku Batoru]

A mechanical super-weapon dubbed Mechagodzilla is constructed to end the terror brought about by Godzilla. Meanwhile, plans are made to infiltrate Godzilla's body using new micro-technology. The testing is a success, and a team is injected into Godzilla to deal with the monster from the inside.

LOST PROJECT HISTORY

Not much is known about Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla: Metallic Battle, though the premise is extremely similar to a series of scrapped drafts featuring Mechani-Kong and micro-technology, such as 1992's Godzilla's Counterattack, only featuring Mechagodzilla in place of the unobtainable Mechani-Kong. Though Koichi Kawakita was enamored with the idea of a Fantastic Voyage (1966)-inspired story, none of the proposed drafts were greenlit. However, he would eventually get his wish in the form of a short sequence featured in Rebirth of Mothra II (1997), wherein Aqua Mothra invades Dagahra's body by splitting into incredibly small copies.

Background and Trivia

  • This scrapped movie is brought up in a lengthy article with special effects director Koichi Kawakita featured in Heisei Godzilla Perfection (ISBN: 4048861190).
  • While it is unknown who is responsible for this draft, monster designer Shinji Nishikawa revealed in an interview with David Milner in December 1995 that he submitted a script that was heavily influenced by Fantastic Voyage (1966). In Nishikawa's story, after Godzilla's body is invaded, a nuclear reaction is triggered within him, causing him to explode, with BabyGodzilla absorbing the released energy and becoming a full-grown adult. Mecha-King Ghidorah's body and technology are also used to create weapons to combat Godzilla. It is possible Nishikawa's submission and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla: Metallic Battle are the same entry, though this remains unconfirmed.
