After her death at the hands of Godzilla, Mothra's corpse is reconstructed into a cyborg. The newly-developed super-weapon MechaMothra is then dispatched to take down Godzilla.

LOST PROJECT HISTORY

During the early stages of Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992), special effects director Koichi Kawakita originally envisioned Mothra being killed off by Godzilla near the end of the movie, with the sequel seeing her being reborn into a cybernetic super-weapon dubbed MechaMothra. As development continued, however, it was later decided that Mothra would live and that Battra would die in her place, putting an end to this short-lived movie concept.

• The article picture featuring MechaMothra is a rendered illustration created by artist Larry Quach for use on Toho Kingdom with permission from the original artist. Other images featuring this illustration can be viewed on his official website and deviantArt pages. It was not created by Toho nor is it their official look for the unused character.
• The mentions of this lost project can be found in an interview conducted with suit actor Kenpachiro Satsuma by David Milner in July 1994, and in the book Japan's Favorite Mon-Star: The Unauthorized Biography of "The Big G" (ISBN: 1550223488).
• Despite the follow-up film to Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992) being Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993), there is no mention that MechaMothra or its unmade movie were a direct influence for the decision to feature another robot monster, and may have just been coincidental.
