LOST PROJECT HISTORY

Staff working in the planning department of Toho Pictures were tasked with submitting a story that could be used as the base for the next Godzilla movie. One of these submissions was Godzilla vs. Cthulhu, which would have pit the king of the monsters against one of writer H. P. Lovecraft's most well known mythical characters, Cthulhu. Unsurprisingly, this unusual proposal would have been heavily inspired by the fictional Cthulhu Mythos.

Sparse details of this proposal can be found in the pages of Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla Completion (ISBN 9784798624631), in an interview with assistant producer Shinichiro Arimasa. Of the numerous submissions from the planning department, Godzilla vs. Cthulhu stood out as Arimasa's favorite.
No known concept artwork of this proposed version of Cthulhu exists. The article picture was a prompt generated through Craiyon, and was not created by Toho nor is it their official design of the unused character.
