A down on his luck man named Lutz had stolen the Atlantean amulet from Asagi Kusanagi, its proper owner, and attempted to follow Gamera across the Pacific Ocean in his old, run down seaplane. However, he soon realized the fault in his plan as his craft eventually ran out of gas and he had no choice but to to forcibly land amongst the waves. Fortunately for Lutz, he was soon rescued by a passing ship. Unfortunately for Lutz, the ship was from the French Navy, who proceeded to arrest him as they believed him to be a protestor attempting to disrupt the nuclear test they were about to conduct. As Lutz was thrown into a cell, the Navy carried out their plan, detonating a nuclear device on the ocean floor. The test was a success... But the explosion awoke something sleeping in the depths of the Pacific. Within seconds, a massive form had raced from the bottom of the sea to the surface.
Bursting up from the waves directly next to one of the ships, an enormous, shark-like monster that would come to be known as Zigra emerged. Despite resting in the ocean's depths, the creature originally hailed from beyond the stars, having eventually made his way to Earth after breaking loose and escaping from his extraterrestrial master. Enraged that his slumber had been so rudely cut short by a nuclear explosion going off in his face, Zigra immediately went on the attack, using his armor-like body to dive into and tear through the fleet. One ship launched its fighters to attack the deep sea beast from the air, but Zigra fired a Tri-Color Ray Blast from his beak, blowing the jets out of the sky. Just as Zigra was about to destroy the ship that Lutz was on, a Plasma Fireball hit the alien shark, forcing him back. Gamera, sensing that the possessor of the amulet was in danger, had arrived.
Zigra watched as the flying turtle zeroed in on him, but the enormous sea monster was unfazed. As soon as Gamera was close enough, the shark creature unleashed another Tri-Color Ray Blast from his face, scoring a direct hit on the reptile and immediately paralyzing him. His muscles completely frozen, Gamera could do nothing but plummet into the ocean and sink to the depths as Zigra resumed venting his rage upon the ships on the surface. However, the space monster's victory was short lived. As the aquatic terror continued to demolish the French Navy, a submarine below detected the descending Gamera and opened fire with a torpedo. The resulting explosion ended up being exactly what the terrapin needed, recharging his strength and blasting out of the water like a rocket.
Zigra had no time to react as Gamera instantly sank his tusks into the shark monster's chest, spilling the creature's blood as he flew off and took Zigra with him. Gamera carried his foe across the Pacific Ocean to the volcanic Ring of Fire, where one of the area's many volcanoes was currently erupting. Releasing the silver beast from his toothy grip, Gamera let Zigra fall directly into the volcano's open crater, where the next burst of lava blew Zigra into pieces. |
