Description

In his never ending search for food, the Korghan beast had come to Earth. There, the inhabitants of the planet had taken to calling him Bagorah before the bat-like creature was ultimately slain by Godzilla. But unknown to any of them, even to the predator himself, Korghan had been followed across the galaxy, and he had inadvertently brought his pursuers directly to Earth. The Dianii, a proud race of extraterrestrial game hunters, had been after the enormous bat for some time. Emerging from hyperspace in their ship just outside of Jupiter's orbit, the Dianii followed Bagorah's trail directly to Earth. But as they got closer, their sensors indicated that the beast was injured, with another large life form leaving the area. Intrigued, the Dianii Captain decided to investigate, deciding that any animal capable of defeating the Korghan beast would make for a worthy challenge.

DianiiDescending lower into Earth's atmosphere, their vessel cloaked, the Dianii's sensors directed them to the scene of a fight between Godzilla, the planet's reptilian King of the Monsters, and the All-Terraintula, the United States military's mechanical superweapon. The Dianii realized that if they were to claim a worthwhile prize, they would need to act and intercede quickly, as Godzilla would no longer be an honorable kill if he were injured beforehand, nor would the All-Terraintula make for a good target, due to its man-made, mechanical nature. To the shock of G-Force and Colonel Cameron's forces, the Dianii ship decloaked, revealing itself to the Earth.

With Godzilla and the All-Terraintula too engrossed in their fight, neither of them took notice as the Dianii's vessel lowered itself from the sky and landed. As G-Force circled the alien craft in their V.T.O.L., the main door opened and the Dianii emerged. While nowhere near Godzilla's size, they were still immense, nearly eighty foot tall giants, all dressed in garb worthy of seasoned warriors. Looking out onto the two battling titans, the hunting group's spear master turned to one of his friends, named Dix, and asked if he'd brought his Mega-Zooka. Dix replied in the affirmative, having already brought the weapon out with him. Taking aim, the hunter fired the Mega-Zooka, seemingly obliterating the All-Terraintula in a single shot. The Dianii were pleased, but before they could begin to focus their efforts on their real target, the All-Terraintula's tranquilizer began to take effect, and Godzilla fell to the ground, unconscious. Disappointed, the aliens briefly considered resuming their hunt for the Korghan beast, but ultimately decided to revive the monster in front of them, to give their apprentice some practice in killing such creatures.

One of the Dianii returned to their ship, then soon emerged with a long, electrical prod-like device. Stabbing Godzilla with the device's prongs, the Dianii proceeded to electrocute the sleeping monster. Though the first shock began to stir Godzilla back to consciousness, at the prodding of his fellow hunters, the alien decided to give him another, elongated shock. Unfortunately, this worked a little too well, as Godzilla awoke and clamped his jaws down onto the hunter's shoulder, then shook him about like a rag doll. Godzilla attempted to incinerate his attacker with an atomic blast, but found his internal fires cooled by the All-Terraintula's tranquilizer. Unable to use his most powerful weapon, Godzilla simply stomped forward and crushed the injured Dianii underfoot, killing the extraterrestrial. Though initially shocked, the remaining hunters simply laughed the loss off, excited that Godzilla was at last proving a challenge. Returning to their ship to properly arm themselves, the Dianii proceeded to follow Godzilla to Portland as the monster crossed over into Oregon.

DianiiAfter a failed attempt by Dr. Kagaku to stop them from attacking Godzilla in a heavily populated area, the Dianii spread out and prepared to begin the hunt. Taking cover behind a building, Dix pulled an arrow from his quiver, aligned it with his bow, and took aim. His skill unparalleled and his speed inhuman, Dix launched over a dozen arrows from his bow, and each and every one of them hit their target, enraging Godzilla. Spotting the bowmaster, Godzilla quickly chased after him. Moving quickly, Dix led the furious monster towards his teammates, allowing the Captain to fire off a set of restraint cables, ensnaring Godzilla's ankles and causing the mighty beast to topple to the street. As soon as he was down, the Rookie tossed a net from a nearby rooftop, covering the fallen monster with it. Pressing a button, the Rookie sent a large amount of electricity surging through the net, though the power barely stunned Godzilla. On the Captain's orders, the group's spearmaster attacked next, leaping down from another building and plunging his spear into Godzilla's chest. Though Spearmaster drew blood, he did little else other than enrage the Monster King, who grabbed the alien by his leg and smashed him down against the ground beside him. Spearmaster had no time to react before Godzilla rolled over, crushing the hunter with his massive body weight and impaling the alien with a number of the arrows still sticking out of his body. The Rookie began to curse Godzilla's name for the death of his comrade, but quickly found himself yanked off the building he was pearching on when Godzilla tugged on the cable connecting the net to its controls.

Elsewhere, the Dianii vessel was currently in the process of being boarded and explored by Colonel Cameron and his forces, as well as Také Fukuda of G-Force and reporter Kate Koshiro. Just as Cameron had his men begin to spread out, a female Dianii - niece to the Captain - emerged, holding a gun and demanding that the "Black-Holers" get off their ship. Unfortunately, Cameron's soldiers used large electric prods to shock the female alien into unconsciousness, at which point the Colonel revealed himself and his men to be Aliens from the Third Planet from the Black Hole, hellbent on world domination.

Meanwhile, as the Rookie began to pull himself up from the pavement, he found himself looking up at an enraged Godzilla. Raising his foot, the mutant reptile prepared to stomp the alien to death, only to find his tail being pulled on. The Dianii's warrior, who had been mostly off to the side until now, finally engaged Godzilla in combat directly. With all his awesome strength, he tugged on the monster's tail, saving the Rookie from certain death. Declaring his intent to beat Godzilla into submission and drag him back to their home world to be displayed in a zoo, the Warrior did his best, only to be raised by Godzilla's tail, then slammed back down against the pavement, crushing his legs beneath the limb. With one final flick of the monster's tail, the Warrior was sent crashing into a nearby building which collapsed on top of him, killing the extraterrestrial. Realizing the severity of the situation, the Captain, the Rookie, and Dix knew they had to get back to their ship. Godzilla had proven to be far too dangerous for them to kill or capture. Telling the Rookie to get the Captain back to their vessel, Dix proceeded to distract Godzilla with his arrows. Taking cover behind a large skyscraper, the Bowmaster chuckled at the reptile's seemingly low intellect. Unfortunately for him, Godzilla pushed the building over, crushing Dix underneath.

DianiiWith the Bowmaster dead and their ship in the air, the Captain and the Rookie were at a loss. The Captain hailed their ship, thinking that his niece was piloting it and coming to their rescue, only to find it overtaken by the Black Hole Aliens. After the Captain and Colonel Cameron took a moment to trade insults with one another, the Aliens proceeded to use the Dianii vessel to open fire on Godzilla, forcing the Captain and the Rookie to take cover. As the two of them watched the assault from afar, they began to discuss how to regain control of their stolen ship. However, the conversation didn't last long as the recovered All-Terraintula incinerated the Captain from behind with its Anti-Godzilla Cannon, leaving only a smoking arm in the Rookie's hand. Stunned by the Captain's death, the Rookie was quickly overcome with fury, the death of his friends and being stranded on an alien world sinking in all at once. Enraged, he attacked the All-Terraintula with all his might, first beating the machine with the Captain's arm before grabbing its two front legs. With all his strength, the Rookie spun the machine around before finally hurling it through the air, towards Godzilla. The Monster King caught the mech in his hands, destroying it.

Eventually stirring from unconsciousness, the Captain's niece realized that Také and Kate were not in fact allies of the Black Hole Aliens and together they began to formulate a plan. With Také acting as a distraction, the female Dianii sneakily removed a necessary component to the ship's shields, deactivating them. With the ship now vulnerable, Godzilla proceeded to blast it to pieces with his atomic ray, just as the Captain's niece, Také, and Kate were able to escape. Outside, the Rookie watched as his only chance home was destroyed by Godzilla, though he realized he wouldn't be stranded for much longer as the flaming Dianii vessel came falling towards him. Saying that he would soon be with his friends once again, the Rookie was killed as the Dianii ship hit the ground and exploded into a massive ball of fire.

Having managed to escape the destruction of the ship in a small, one man vehicle, the Captain's niece stopped long enough to drop Také and Kate off in a safe area in Portland, then shot off into the sky, leaving behind the Earth and the failed remains of the Dianii's final hunt.

Powers / Weapons
Mega-Zooka

Mega-Zooka

The Mega-Zooka, as the name suggests, was a large, bazooka-like weapon wielded by Dix. The Bowmaster apparently had a history of using it frequently, as the Rookie commented on how much he hated the weapon.

The Mega-Zooka was an extremely powerful weapon, taking out the All-Terraintula in a single shot, engulfing it in flames and blowing off one of the machine's legs.

Shock Rod

Shock Rod

A large device roughly the size of the Mega-Zooka, the Shock Rod was used by the Dianii in their attempt to revive Godzilla after the reptile had passed out from the All-Terraintula's Super-Tranq.

Described by Dr. Kagaku as a "cardio-stimulator crossed with a neural-regenerator," the Shock Rod was successful in electrocuting Godzilla until he regained consciousness, though it was lost when the reptile proceeded to kill its operator.

Bow and Arrow

Bow and Arrow

This was Dix's weapon of choice, giving him the title of Bowmaster.

These were the first of the Dianii's weapons to be used against Godzilla and at one point the archer had managed to pincushion Godzilla with no less than twenty three arrows at the same time.

Restraint Cables

Restraint Cables

Used by the Captain, these cables were fired off from a gun-like device.

The cables were used in an attack that saw them wrapping themselves tightly around Godzilla's ankles and causing him to fall. This was key in setting him up for the next phase of the Dianii's assault.

High Voltage Net

High Voltage Net

The Rookie used the high voltage net once Godzilla had been downed by the Captain's restraint cables, throwing it off a rooftop and covering the monster with it. Connected to a button by a cable, the net became electrified once the Rookie pressed it.

Though the voltage seemed to harm Godzilla, its effect was only temporary, as the Captain noted that his sensors showed that the reptile was barely even stunned.

Spear

Spears

The last of the Dianii's weapons to be used against Godzilla, Spearmaster's weapons of choice were just ordinary spears.

Leaping off a nearby rooftop and stabbing down into Godzilla's chest with it, the spear penetrated the monster's hide. However, it couldn't get deep enough to cause any serious injury, as Godzilla pulled it out seconds later.

Rifle

Rifle

As the Dianii followed Godzilla to Portland, the Captain was seen holding a large rifle of some kind. Ultimately, however, he is never shown using it, and what became of it is unknown.

Axe

Axe

The Shock Rod's operator was shown to be wielding a large, almost scythe-like axe at one point. However, this weapon was never actually seen being used against Godzilla, or anyone else.

Gun

Gun

When the Aliens from the Third Planet from the Black Hole infiltrated the Dianii ship, the Captain's niece confronted them while wielding a large pistol of some kind.

Whether it shot bullets, lasers, or something else entirely is unknown, as she was electrocuted by the Black Hole Aliens before she had a chance to use it.

Background and Trivia
  • Created by Arthur "Art" Adams.
  • In Godzilla King of the Monsters #7, the color of Dix's arrows suddenly changes from gray to red. In Godzilla King of the Monsters #8, the same thing happens to his visor.
  • The cover of Godzilla King of the Monsters #6 features Spearmaster using a large, cannon-like weapon (likely intended to be the Mega-Zooka, though the design is different) against Godzilla, but unlike the cover of Godzilla King of the Monsters #7 which shows Godzilla impaled by Bowmaster's many arrows, this never happens in the issue itself.
  • In Godzilla King of the Monsters Issues #5, #6, and #8, colored by Albert Deschesne, the Dianii's word balloons are colored blue with yellow text to signify their translated alien language. However, in Godzilla King of the Monsters #7, colored by Cary Porter and Perry McNamee, this is overlooked and their word balloons are presented as the traditional white with black text.
  • The method in which Godzilla kills Dix the Bowmaster, by pushing a massive skyscraper over on top of him, is identical to the way Godzilla defeats the original Super X in The Return of Godzilla (1984).
  • The Rookie's line just before the Captain's death - "What are we going to do? I reckon they mean to kill us!" - is also a line spoken word for word by Rokuro Ibuki in the American dub of Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973).
  • The original solicitation for Godzilla King of the Monsters #6 incorrectly refers to Bagorah as the Dianii's "pet," and states that the purpose behind their attack on Godzilla is in fact getting revenge on him for defeating the monstrous bat.
  • The original solicitation for Godzilla King of the Monsters #7 states that the Dianii tag Godzilla with a tracking device and stalk him "over land and sea," but this never happens at any point in the story.
