First,
thanks goes to Jessica Stan for sending this in for
review!
This is the single release for the "Song of Origin"
by PUFFY which was used in the 2005 Pokémon
film. The CD is paired up with the song "Nice
Buddy" by the group, and includes karaoke versions
of each. Despite its use in the movie, the single
cover its self is mostly devoid of any reference to
the Nintendo created series. Instead, there are odd
characters mostly seeming inspired by fairy tales.
The exception is the obi, which in this case is a
large piece of paper that covers the entire back before
being removed and does display a large, normal shot
of Pikachu.
In regards to the tracks, "Song of Origin"
is a pretty good Japanese pop song. It does seem more
directed at a teenage audience, and features a more
traditional "female rock group" type of
feel to it, but is enjoyable for fans of the genre.
"Nice Buddy" isn't quite as great, though.
Its not a bad track, but feels a little more generic
and not very memorable at all. The disc then rounds
out its runtime with some karaoke versions of the
two songs. Sadly, the karaoke tracks still have some
vocals in them, although they are mostly background
singers.
Overall, unless someone loves the group, people would
be better off sticking with the Pocket Monsters:
Mew and the Aura Hero Lucario - Music Collection
(ZMCP-2303).
It already includes the "Song of Origin",
the extra tracks here aren't particularly worth it
although if it can be acquired at a budget price then
completists might still want to hunt it down for the
karaoke stuff.
