To be
completely honest, I knew next to nothing about this
release before purchasing it. In fact, all I did know
was the title and that it was a two disc set, as further
information about it was nonexistent on the web at
the time. My hopes was for an unrivaled presentation
of the movie's soundtrack, containing every last cue
from the movie along with some possible extras to
fill the second disc. What I got, though, was a two
disc "radio drama", in other words the exact
audio from the film including music, voice acting,
and sound effects. The only difference I noticed between
this and the audio track from the actual movie was
some added noise from Lupin during the "roof
jumping" scene, which had previously been a music
only sequence. Otherwise, there isn't much to this
release, as the movie's audio isn't even broken down
into smaller breaks but simply two long tracks located
across the two discs. So if you enjoy radio dramas,
you might enjoy this, although Columbia certainly
didn't do much to enhance the experience like they
could have; however, in their defense, the clarity
of the mono presentation here is at least very clean
and sounds about as good as one could have hoped for
given the single channel format. On a side note, this
release also comes with a small double sided poster,
which displays stills from the movie and a very small
shot of the production's theatrical poster.
