Released
under their "Heat Wave" label, this soundtrack from Nippon
Columbia makes for a nice stand alone experience. After
a slow start with the "Lover" track, the disc
really gets going with the unique and interesting "MORGA"
theme, which features a lot of chanting amongst more
traditional orchestrated music to good effect. In fact,
the score itself is ripe with these more unusual recordings.
The strangest of these is easily "Be-Go,"
which sounds like it overlays "death moans"
from fighting video games ever so often; something which
is just a little too odd for my tastes I'm afraid, and
I think this music was derived from the bar scene in
the film. As expected from a horror score, a couple of
these cues are more ambient in nature, such as the very
chilling
"Mil" theme. As for the end song, done here
by artist Säju, it starts out strong and very soothing
before shifting into a more traditional pop song, which
is also well done beyond the very awkward moment where
it briefly shifts to a more rap type of flow in the lyrics.
Overall, most of the score, save some tracks like "Damonisch,"
makes for a very enjoyable listen either as part of the
film or isolated. Anyone who enjoys soundtracks for horror
pictures should definitely consider hunting this release
out.
