This single
release for the 2003 show The
Gransazers focuses on the opening theme by U-Ya
Asaoka titled "Life Goes On". For those unfamiliar
with the tune, it's a very energizing piece of music,
with a great tempo that never failed to make the start
of the show entertaining. Unfortunately, it works better
set within a small duration, and seems to stretch on far
too long in the four minute version here. This composition
is also different from the one used in the show, as the
music level is diminished while Asaoka's vocal work is
more prominent. Overall, it just doesn't work as well
as the version used for the opening of the show, although
it's still an interesting listen.
As for the other two tracks, they are also by Asaoka,
although were never featured in the program. Both are
decent. Not too memorable, but fairly good pieces of music
by Asaoka. They could best be described as soothing, though,
with a fairly slow tempo, which makes them oddly mismatched
when combined with the upbeat "Life Goes On"
track.
As a whole, it's not a bad single release... although
there's nothing about it that elicits strong praise either.
Fans of the show will probably be disappointed that most
of the music is detached from the series itself, although
people interested in hearing some of Asaoka's other work
should find this "sampling" interesting. It
is, even in the US, a fairly inexpensive release, so people
wishing to experiment with it at least don't have a great
deal to lose.
