BUYSOUNDTRAX Records has announced an upcoming release of the GODZILLA (1998) soundtrack across a three disc CD set. Titled GODZILLA: The Ultimate Edition, the set is looking to one up the already fantastic release by La-La Land Records in 2007. How? By offering all of the content found on the 2007 release (LLLCD-1058) and later on the Godzilla Perfect Collection series (GX-8), track for track, on the first two discs. This leaves the third disc, which is the previously unreleased album score.

For those keeping tally, a commercial album score was planned but scrapped after the movie turned out to be so front loaded at the box office. The album score was released to select Academy members in Hollywood as a “For Your Consideration” promo score, to try and land David Arnold’s soundtrack an Academy Award. The promo wound up in a private collector’s hands who ended up mass producing a bootleg version under the label Concorde, given the CD number 9910.

This set will finally give the album score a legitimate, commercial release. For those who haven’t heard it, the album score is different from the one used in the movie, but not dramatically so. Meaning this release will appeal to diehard collectors or those who never snagged the earlier release.
