Another entry from “series 1” of the Godzilla sauces comes the Mothra Queen of the Monsters hot sauce by Jade City Foods. This is the first of the “medium” heat level hot sauces I’ve tried from the brand. I know that heat is subjective, and giving something a heat level on a scale is very hard, but I was going into this expecting something pretty tame since I have tried a sauce just above this and wasn’t particularly impressed. So how hot is Mothra’s hot sauce? Well it surprised me to be honest, but more important for this one is the taste which is nothing short of excellent.
Heat
This hot sauce is given a heat score of 6/10, technically 6/11 as some will go that high. That places it below the 7 ranking Biollante Mutated Rose Hot Sauce, which I found very mild. As a result, I was expecting a very mild heat to this one as well. To my shock, it was surprisingly hot. It hit just that right level, in fact, of being hot but not overpowering to the dish. What’s more, it’s a slow burn, so you get the flavor first before the heat hits later. As far as heat level goes, I feel like Mothra’s will be a general crowd pleaser.

On a side note, it almost isn’t worth bringing up at this stage, but I will note that the bottle doesn’t have a dipper. The fact that the Biollante hot sauce did feels at this stage more like an outliner as I have yet to have another hot sauce from Jade City Foods that does. With this particular hot sauce, it’s a bit thicker than the others so at least it’s easier to avoid accidentally drowning food in it by pouring too much out.
Taste: Shake It
First off, shake the hot sauce. Shake it very well before tasting, as there a quite a few ingredients in this one and they have a habit of separating in the bottle.
In terms of the taste itself, A+ on this one. It’s a bit sweat, with a subtle pineapple flavor. However, that sweat sensation disappears pretty quick as the heat from the slow burn overtakes it. The taste before the heat overtakes it, though, is excellent and this hot sauce kept me coming back for more. In fact, had to restrain myself a bit as it’s a hot sauce where it’s a little too easy to quickly go through a bottle.
As for what it pairs with, it worked really well with chicken where it would add flavor but not overpower the taste of the chicken itself. It worked okay with tacos, where it would bring a nice bit of heat although on the negative side the flavor of the hot sauce itself got a little lost. To my surprise, the Queen of the Monsters hot sauce actually worked best with just a normal tortilla chip. The reason being that the taste of the hot sauce itself is so appealing that something more neutral like the chip really lets it shine.

Queen of the Monsters Hot Sauce Ingredients
For the ingredients on this hot sauce, Queen of the Monsters contains the following and placed in this order on the bottle:
Habanero, yellow bell pepper, pineapple, turmeric, garlic, ginger, white wine vinegar, distilled white vinegar, agave, lime juice, salt

Of note, that’s quite a few ingredients compared to a number of these other hot sauces. That might be why it has a slightly more complex taste to it. Regardless of the larger pool of ingredients, the health details are the same as the others: 0 calories with the only major vice being the 100mg of sodium.
Final Thoughts
This is a great hot sauce, and my favorite so far from the line. That statement doesn’t hold a lot of weight right now, given I’ve only tried four of their hot sauces. I do plan to try a lot more, though, and then come back and see how this ones stakes up. In fact, suffice to say, I have a lot of these left to sample.

As a side note, I find the label on this one to be the least appealing. Mothra is slightly smoothed over on the cover with colors washed out, obscuring details while the background is kind of a generic yellow cloud. A lot of these hot sauces have quite good designs on the labels too, so kind of sad to see this one with such a bland concept to it. That said, the first series of these didn’t quite have the same attention to detail in the labels as later ones, as for example the Rodan one from this series also has a poorly Photoshopped-out Godzilla on it, as his hand and tail are still seen in the background.
