Apple TV’s “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” unveils monstrous new trailer ahead of its season two premiere Friday, February 27

Today at the Apple TV Press Day, the cast of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” took the stage to unveil the official trailer for the highly anticipated second season of the global hit Monsterverse series from Legendary Television. Starring Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett and Anders Holm, the 10-episode second season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” will premiere globally on Friday, February 27, 2026, with the first episode, followed by one episode every Friday until May 1, 2026.

Season one of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings looking to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Colonel Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.

Season two will pick up with the fate of Monarch — and the world — hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe — all with the threat of a titan event on the horizon. As previously announced, season two will feature Kong, Godzilla and introduce a new Titan: the enigmatic Titan X that is now officially on the loose. Titan X isn’t just another monster; it’s a living cataclysm. When its massive bioluminescent form breaks the surface of the ocean, the world seems to hold its breath. In “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” season two, Titan X stands at the center of the mystery – an ancient force emerging from the deep, its purpose uncertain, its power unmatched, its awe and terror in equal measure. New  season two guest stars include Takehiro Hira, Amber Midthunder, Curtiss Cook, Cliff Curtis, Dominique Tipper and  Camilo Jiménez Varón.

Hailing from Legendary Television, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is executive produced by Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, alongside Chris Black, Jen Roskind, Matt Shakman and Lawrence Trilling, who also directs four episodes, as well as Andrew Colville, who writes two episodes and serves as executive producer. Black serves as showrunner on season two. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character. Toho licensed the rights to Legendary for “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” as a natural byproduct of their long-term relationship with the film franchise. Apple TV has a multi-series deal with Legendary Entertainment, which includes the second season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” and multiple spinoff series based on the franchise.

April 17th, 2025 update

Although Legendary recently brought the series back into the spotlight with the announcement of a graphic novel, filming for the second season had already wrapped up last month. While specific details about the new season remain limited, Collider was able to catch up caught up with star Wyatt Russell to ask what fans can expect. His response, while light on specifics, is spoiler-free and reads as follows:

“Season 2 of Monarch was really interesting to be able to get to do because we had to expand on certain themes and stuff that we found in the first season to really work. I haven’t been briefed on what I can tease and what I can’t. I can say that the mystery deepens. There are more monsters that arrive that are really fun to explore in the story. We wanted to level it up, I guess you could say, and in the Monarch way, ratchet up the stakes of the relationships as well. I can tease that the relationships really get ratcheted up.”

Apple TV+ unveils first-look at highly anticipated Godzilla and Titans live action original series, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters”

Based on Legendary’s Monsterverse, the new series premiering on Apple TV+ stars Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski

Today, Apple TV+ announced the title of its highly anticipated sci-fi drama based on Legendary’s Monsterverse as “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” and unveiled the first images from the 10-episode series starring Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski.

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is co-developed by Chris Black (“Severance,” “Star Trek: Enterprise,” “Outcast,”) and Matt Fraction (“Hawkeye”). Matt Shakman (“Wandavision”) directs the first two episodes.

Hailing from Legendary Television, the series is executive produced by Black, Fraction and Shakman alongside Joby Harold (“Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts”) and Tory Tunnell  (“Spinning Out,” “Underground”) from Safehouse Pictures, Matt Shakman (“Wandavision”), Andy Goddard (“Carnival Row, “Downton Abbey”), Brad Van Arragon (“Yellowjackets, “Carnival Row”), and Andrew Colville (“Severance,” “Star Trek: Discovery”).

May 19th, 2022 update

The upcoming and currently untitled series around Monarch, Titans and Godzilla has a director. Matt Shakman, helmer on WandaVision and director of the Immigrant series, has been tapped to direct the first two episodes of the upcoming show. It’s unknown how many episodes might be in the series, and given the announcement it’s likely that other directors will be announced to helm the later episodes in the series.

January 20th, 2022 update

Very little is known about the project right now, although a plot synopsis has been released:

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the untitled series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.

The running theory is that this places the television show as directly following the 2014 movie, as opposed to later entries in the MonsterVerse. How much this will focus on Monarch versus giant monsters is also a burning question. Taking to Twitter, Legendary did note that Godzilla and other Titans would be appearing in the show.

Production wise, the series will be produced by Legendary Television. Showrunner and executive producer will be Chris Black, whose prior producer work includes Star Trek: Enterprise, Desperate Housewives and many other shows. In addition, Black is credited as a co-creator alongside Matt Fraction, who will also executive produces on the program. Fraction is best known for his writing for comics, ranging from The Immortal Iron Fist to Uncanny X-Men. He also worked as a consultant on both the film Iron Man 2 and the Disney+ series Hawkeye. Joining them on the executive production team will be Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita from Toho. Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures will also be involved as executive producers.

A release date is currently not announced for the show. We’ll update this article, turning it into a news roundup, as more information becomes available.
